Description:Housing Connector is a hybrid organization headquartered in Seattle, WA. While this role ideally sits in Seattle to enable regular in-person collaboration with the Director of Product and Technology, we’re open to exceptional candidates based in Austin, Denver, or Portland. The team comes together in person every Wednesday, so Seattle-based hires should expect to be in the office that day each week. Candidates in other cities will need to travel to Seattle at least quarterly, with more frequent visits likely during the first six months to support onboarding, strategic planning, and team connection. Join us in creating lasting, measurable change in the housing ecosystem.Position OverviewThe Community Hub is a centralized digital platform developed by Housing Connector to help case managers manage their clients' housing journeys from end to end. It serves as a single location where case managers can access housing data, simplify workflows, and support clients through every stage of the housing process — from identifying available units to lease-up and move-in. As the system evolves, it will also support broader partner integrations and cross-sector collaboration.As our first engineering hire, the Senior Software Engineer will play a foundational role in shaping this platform and our broader digital strategy. You will be instrumental in designing and building secure, scalable web and mobile applications that directly serve front-line housing providers and community organizations. Reporting to our Director of Product and Technology, you will own critical architectural decisions, establish engineering best practices, and influence the future growth of our technical team and infrastructure.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the technical architecture and evolution of our digital platform, including the Community Hub — ensuring it can scale to support additional tools, user types, and integration needs over time.Design and build scalable web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks and best practices.Own the full software development lifecycle and implement engineering best practices (CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews).Architect and implement APIs and system integrations, facilitating secure, reliable connections with third-party systems (Zillow, property management software).Lead the technical transition from our current Salesforce-heavy infrastructure to more flexible, custom solutionsEnsure platforms are secure, reliable, and compliant with relevant data protection and privacy standardsBuild with a platform mindset, creating systems that are extensible and can support multiple stakeholders and use cases over timeMentor future engineering hires and help shape an inclusive, collaborative engineering cultureCollaborate closely with product, business, and community-facing stakeholders to translate complex needs into elegant technical solutionsRequirements:Qualifications and ExperienceRequired Skills:5+ years of professional software development experienceProven experience with technical leadership and architecture designFull-stack development expertise, including:JavaScript and React (or similar modern frameworks)Backend development with RESTful APIs and database designCloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelinesExperience building and scaling customer- or partner-facing web applicationsUnderstanding of security best practices, including documentation, testing, code review, and version controlStrong development practices, including code review, documentation, and testing methodologiesDemonstrated ability to build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systemsAbility to clearly communicate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholdersComfortable working in ambiguous environments and independently setting technical directionPreferred Experience:Experience working in early-stage or startup environments, ideally as a founding or first technical hireExperience building multi-tenant applications and enterprise integrationsDomain experience in one or more of the following areas:Mapping and location-based servicesProperty management systems or real estate technologyPayment processing and billing systemsExperience with user-centered design and aligning technical solutions with customer needsFamiliarity with Salesforce development and Lightning Web ComponentsExperience implementing secure development practices and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)Passion for social impact, housing equity, and building technology that reduces barriers to opportunityWhat We OfferAt Housing Connector, we prioritize equity, flexibility, and professional growth:Comprehensive Health Coverage – Medical, dental, vision plans.
