Microsoft Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide and we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help achieve that mission.
As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and HW (Hardware) infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Firmware COE (Center of Excellence) as part of SCHIE organization is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for software/firmware stack for Microsoft Azure, improving the quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft Cloud hardware. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Develop software for high-throughput, multi-tenant services in the Azure cloud, applying DevOps best practices and operating at enterprise scale.
Leverage AI and machine learning to enhance deployment safety, fleet health monitoring, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics for Azure fleet security.
Design, implement, and maintain software solutions that enable secure and efficient firmware deployments for Azure’s hardware product lines.
Analyze large-scale telemetry and operational data to generate insights and improve decision-making.
Integrate AI models into production services, ensuring high availability, reliability, and scalability.
Drive daily live-site operations, monitoring, incident management, and performance/COGS optimizations.
Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and partner teams to identify and deliver proactive security and operational improvements.
Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to service reliability, security compliance, and incident resolution.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
3+ years of combined software and systems engineering experience.
2+ years of experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell).
Other Qualifications:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or related field.
5+ years of applied machine learning, data science, or statistical modeling experience.
Proficiency in Python, R, or similar languages for data science/ML.
Understanding of algorithms, data structures, and system design.
Proven ability to automate operational workflows and improve service reliability.
with large-scale data pipelines, distributed systems, and cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
Experience deploying ML models into production.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
