Summary: The Senior Research Engineer III-IV independently applies advanced knowledge of scientific research or engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields related to the ALIAS-Texas Project.
Uses a wide application of complex principles, theories and concepts in the specific field or fields. Works on complex problems of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of intangible variance factors. The Senior Research Engineer III-IV will play a critical role in the development and execution of projects supporting the ALIAS-Texas Project within the Bush Combat Development Complex.
Responsibilities:
- Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved research or engineering techniques and procedures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined equipment, materials, processes, products, and/or scientific methods and approaches.
- In a supervisory capacity, plans, develops, coordinates, and directs several large and significant projects or a project of major scope and importance. May be responsible for an entire scientific and/or engineering program.
- Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others. Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed tests, products and equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.
- Presents invited papers; primary author or key contributor on major reports, products, papers, presentations, and peer reviewed journals. Widely recognized by key customers/grantors/investigators as being central to their mission; typically directs/participates in major proposal preparation and presentation.
- Provides mentoring and training of research staff; uses national network to identify high caliber research talent.
- Develops and initiates technical standards through interactions with professional societies and key clients. Provides ideas to improve organizational efficiency at all levels of the unit/department. Plays a key role in the acquisition of research funding; identifies sources of new contract funding and directs the preparation of proposals and presentations
- Effectively uses peer network to expand technical capability and business development opportunities; significant involvement in external seminars, workshops, professional societies, and committees; develops and initiates technical standards through interactions with professional societies and key clients.
-Participates in strategic planning. Plays a key role in the acquisition of research funding; identifies sources of new contract funding and directs the preparation of proposals and presentations.

Education and Experience:
Minimum qualification for a Senior Research Engineer III
- Master’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten years of related experience.
Minimum qualification for a Senior Research Engineer IV
- Master’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Twelve years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of engineering and/or scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.
- Engineering and/or scientific design and testing skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in the development and implementation of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for mission critical applications.
- Doctorate degree in Engineering.
- Extensive experience in Aviation, Sensor & Network Integration.
