Responsibilities What you'll be challenged to do: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Leader with a strong background in roadway engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, project management acumen, and leadership skills to drive the successful design and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects. This role involves overseeing design and preparation of comprehensive plan submittals, encompassing highway and arterial roadway design, complex intersection configurations, local roadway development, site design, bridge replacement and rehabilitation, traffic engineering, and drainage solutions primarily for Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) projects, as well as other state DOTs and municipal agencies. What you'll be challenged to do: Project Engineering and Design Leadership Lead and manage engineering design efforts related to transportation infrastructure including freeways, arterials, intersections, railroad crossings, drainage systems, and site development. Produce, review, and oversee detailed engineering plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules ensuring compliance with client and regulatory standards. Conduct and supervise technical analyses, engineering calculations, and development of design documentation that support project deliverables. Facilitate coordination and collaboration within multidisciplinary design teams to ensure cohesive and integrated project solutions. Engage regularly in client meetings, presentations, and design reviews to communicate project progress, technical challenges, and solutions effectively. Provide expert guidance on FDOT design standards and ensure all designs meet or exceed applicable regulations and quality standards. Manage submittals and responses during construction phases, including review of shop drawings and addressing construction-related inquiries. Team Leadership and Development Mentor, coach, and support engineering staff to enhance technical skills, professional growth, and team collaboration. Establish and enforce rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes to maintain high standards of design accuracy and completeness. Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that attracts, retains, and develops top engineering talent. Provide constructive feedback, manage performance reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. Employee and Resource Management Oversee workload allocation, project staffing, and resource planning to optimize productivity and meet project deadlines. Drive initiatives that support employee engagement, professional development, and career advancement. Address performance issues with professionalism and provide guidance to maintain team morale and cohesion. Business Development and Client Relations Build and nurture long-term relationships with key clients, including FDOT and municipal agencies. Actively participate in the preparation of proposals, RFQs, and pursuit of new projects by providing technical insight and strategic input. Represent the firm in client service meetings, industry events, and professional forums to enhance company visibility and reputation. Collaborate with marketing and business development teams to identify opportunities for expanding service offerings and client base. Qualifications What you'll bring to our firm: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Florida is required. Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in roadway and transportation engineering design, preferably including extensive FDOT project experience. Proficient with engineering design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Land Desktop, and other relevant tools. Strong knowledge of FDOT design standards, AASHTO guidelines, and local government requirements. Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams. Proven track record in mentoring staff and fostering a collaborative, inclusive workplace culture. Strong business acumen with experience supporting business development efforts and client relationship management. What we prefer you bring: Extensive background in complex intersection design, bridge replacement/rehabilitation, and traffic engineering. Experience working with multiple state DOTs and municipal clients on transportation projects. Familiarity with construction administration and ability to manage design support during the construction phase. Proven leadership in a consulting engineering environment with demonstrated success in staff development and client satisfaction. Compensation: The range for this position is salary range is $132,000-$204,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
