Senior Project Development Engineer
Leap29 are seeking a Senior Project Development Engineer to support the development of renewable energy projects, spanning from site identification to financial closing and construction. This role focuses on managing the conceptual design of utility-scale wind and solar power plants, as well as BESS facilities. The Senior Project Development Engineer will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate potential project sites and provide technical support throughout the entire development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities:
•Oversee the scheduling and coordination of technical studies for early-stage project sites, including: oPartnering with the development team to identify technical and buildability risks during prospecting oConducting desktop evaluations of geotechnical, hydrological, seismic, and topographic constraints to assess project feasibility oDesigning conceptual layouts to ensure an economically viable project that meets the target capacity oSupporting developers and conducting site visits to evaluate constructability •Manage engineering and design activities for mid-stage and late-stage projects, including: oLeading and coordinating preliminary designs, collection systems, substations, transmission, electrical, and civil design bases for wind, solar, and BESS projects oOptimizing designs and identifying opportunities for cost reduction and performance improvement oManaging third-party engineering consultants and collaborating with both internal and external teams to support project development while considering technical specifications and lessons learned oEnsuring designs meet permitting requirements by working closely with development and permitting teams oSupporting technical bid packages, including specifications, design guidelines, and bid evaluations oKeeping up-to-date with industry technology trends and OEM developments for major equipment oContributing to the development and maintenance of multidisciplinary design standards for project infrastructure oCollaborating with O&M and Asset Management teams to support operations, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues as needed
•Act as a technical interface for a cross-functional group that includes finance, engineering, GIS, real estate, permitting, transmission/interconnection, and revenue contract origination teams
•Willingness to travel, approximately 10% to 20% of the time Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
•5+ years of experience in renewable energy engineering (PV, BESS, Wind), with a preference for wind experience
•Experience in early-stage/pre-construction design and oversight of utility-scale project engineering
•Knowledge of the construction phase is a plus
