BASIC FUNCTION

The Sr. Production Engineering role oversees operation of Bay 1, Bay 2 or Bay 3 unit at Baystar - Bayport Polymers. The Sr. Production Engineer acts as a lead technical resource for operations personnel, applies technical skills to optimize plant operations, to implement and commission yield improvement and cost saving projects, participates in procedure reviews and development, operator training, and site qualification efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•Providing expertise and guidance on how equipment associated to the campaign operates

•Providing expertise and guidance with plant utilities

•Working with the Operations Superintendent, Operations Manager, & Operations Director to provide data and chemical engineering support for specific product campaigns

•Working closely with Technical & Quality personnel to optimize operations and meet plant goals

•Ensure all product specifications are met

•Supervising the processes, ensuring quality work is done in a safe, efficient manner

•Liaising with other engineers to develop plans that improve production, costs, and labor required

•Diagnosing problems in the production process and providing recommendations and training

•Establishing safety procedures and protocols that take the operations personnel well-being into account

•Keeping abreast of advancements in engineering and production, and sharing knowledge

•Identifying, documenting, and reporting unsafe practices

•Drawing up production schedules and budgets for projects

•Scheduling meetings with relevant departments and stakeholders

•Analyzing all facets of production and making recommendations for improvement

•Obtaining any materials and equipment required

•Investigate problems, analyze root causes, and drive solutions

•Diagnose and document root causes of deviations in the unit and improve operating discipline

•Responding to urgent unit issues and emergencies. Act as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drive implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions

•Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes

•Awareness of potential environmental impacts in your area of responsibility and consequences if an upset occurs

•Completing various administrative tasks

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

•Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (other technical degrees will be considered depending upon the experience level of the individual)

•3-5 years of experience in an engineering role

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills

•Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team

•Ability to manage multiple priorities

•Proficient in MS Office

•Technical competence and process knowledge

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

•Master's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

•5+ years process experience in the petrochemical or refining industry

PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the incumbent to:

•Follow safety requirements for the role including any use of personal equipment, aids, or tools

•Read technical procedures and materials in English

•Ability to read and interpret and develop documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

•Wear mandatory FRC and PPE (foot, head, ear, eye, and hand protection) when inside plant environment, or where directed by signage or procedure

•Routinely reacts to visual, aural, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work including at high elevations above grade

•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

•Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, walking, and climbing

•Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator where directed by signage or where safety precautions are necessary

•Work under deadline pressure within an environment that demands attention to safety and detail

•Sit or stand for extended periods of time

•Work at computer for significant periods of time throughout the day

•Required to reach overhead and at shoulder level with hands and arms

•The noise level in the work environment may be loud and requires that hearing protection be worn in identified areas

•Must demonstrate fine and gross hand manipulation including pinching, gripping, turning, and keyboarding

•Works in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment

•Walk ½ a mile per job

•Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces

•Climbs and works at various heights and may work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched, or kneeling position

•Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency situations

•Must be capable of lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds

•Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways

•Climb up to 200 feet in height
