About Voyant Photonics
Voyant Photonics, based in the heart of New York City, is transforming machine perception with a new class of LiDAR devices that are compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand and powerful enough to measure range, velocity, and reflectivity with unparalleled accuracy. By leveraging cutting-edge silicon photonic chips smaller than your fingertip, we deliver sensors that are not only revolutionary in performance but also affordable enough to integrate into any system.
Our technology disrupts the status quo of bulky, expensive, and power-hungry LiDAR systems, making high-precision sensing accessible for widespread adoption in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, and beyond. With Voyant, the next of machines can see, understand, and navigate the world like never before.
Discover how we’re redefining what’s possible by making real products out of cutting-edge research in silicon photonics.
Why Join Us:
This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in our company. As we prepare to launch our first of sensors at scale, you’ll take ownership of the reliability, robustness, and long-term performance of Voyant’s integrated LiDAR systems.
This is a hands-on role: you’ll work directly with hardware, photonics, and test teams, lead root-cause investigations, develop reliability tests specific to LiDAR performance, and coordinate with CMs to make sure our sensors hold up across environments, use cases, and time.
If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy tackling complex challenges, and are excited about transforming the sensing landscape, we’d love to hear from you.
Location: NYC , remote acceptable with monthly travel to NYC.
Key Responsibilities
Define and execute reliability strategy for Voyant’s sensor platform across photonics, optics, electronics, firmware, and mechanical.
In partnership with the Test team, lead development of reliability plans targeting LiDAR-specific risks (e.g. laser lifetime, optical alignment drift, photodetector aging, etc.)
Drive Accelerated Life Testing, thermal cycling, shock & vibe, humidity, and optical path stability testing
Partner with design and packaging teams to identify risks early and guide design for reliability
Interface with CM partners for reliability test execution, yield and FA analysis, and quality controls
Own dashboards and reporting for reliability metrics—both internal testing and field return trends
Serve as the internal expert on failure modes, lifetime prediction, and root cause diagnostics for optoelectronic systems
Lead process control implementation, CM auditing, and related quality infrastructure to ensure sustained reliability in manufacturing
Qualifications
BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, Photonics, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience)
6+ years of hands-on experience in reliability, quality, or product integrity roles—ideally with LiDAR, optics, or sensor hardware
Strong background in failure mechanisms for opto-mechanical systems (e.g., lens adhesives, alignment shifts, laser aging, thermal stress)
Proficiency in DfMEA, accelerated life testing, and environmental qualification
Comfort being hands-on working in the lab: reviewing test setups, inspecting components, analyzing failure data
Experience working with contract manufacturers to ensure test coverage and quality controls
Outstanding communicator. You must be able to generate clarity using imperfect information in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Experience with photonic ICs, VCSELs, SPADs, or LiDAR signal chains
Familiarity with AEC-Q, ISO 16750, or automotive/industrial test standards
You’ve built out internal reliability infrastructure or labs in a resource-constrained environment
Experience closing the loop from in-field failures back into design improvements
Benefits Package:
Competitive salary and meaningful equity package
Comprehensive health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision)
Unlimited PTO and paid company holidays
Team events and company meetups
