Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of UL 891-compliant switchboards , Power Distribution Units (PDUs) , and Remote Power Panels (RPPs) . The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sheet metal design, thermal management, electrical enclosure standards, and integration with electrical and control components. You will be responsible for taking products from concept to production, ensuring high performance, manufacturability, compliance, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design and development of low-voltage power distribution products, including UL 891 switchboards, PDUs, and RPPs. Create and manage 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering change notices (ECNs) using tools such as SolidWorks or Creo. Ensure designs comply with UL 891, NEMA, NEC, and other relevant electrical and mechanical standards. Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, and compliance teams to optimize design for functionality, safety, and manufacturability. Perform thermal and structural analysis to ensure product reliability under various operating conditions. Support testing, validation, and certification processes including UL listing and internal QA standards. Interface with suppliers and manufacturing teams to select materials, validate prototypes, and resolve DFM/DFA issues. Mentor junior engineers and participate in cross-functional design reviews. Maintain design documentation, revision control, and support product lifecycle management.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 7+ years of mechanical design experience in power distribution equipment or related electrical enclosure systems. Proven experience with UL 891 switchboards, PDUs, or RPPs is required.
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent). Deep knowledge of sheet metal design, electrical enclosure design, grounding, and mounting systems. Familiarity with electrical component layout, bus bar design, thermal management, and protection systems. Experience with FEA/CFD tools for mechanical and thermal analysis is a plus. Understanding of UL, NEMA, IEC, and NEC codes and standards.
Soft Skills
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and project management abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in data center infrastructure, industrial power systems, or critical power applications. Familiarity with PLM tools (e.g., Windchill, Arena) and ERP systems. Experience with rapid prototyping and lean product development methodologies.
Pay : $120,000 - $160,000 per year. Additional bonus incentive offered.
