Position Summary
Are you a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with backend expertise, or a Senior Back-End Engineer who also writes React? Do you love building modern web applications and solving real-world problems with clean, scalable code? Are you looking to grow your technical skills while making an impact in a mission-driven startup? Do you enjoy breaking down problems into discrete pieces of work, and executing on those to completion? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!
You will report directly to the head of Applications as part of a brand-new team that will be building out a green-field product for internal users. You will own features end-to-end while collaborating closely with business stakeholders and Software Architects.
If you have hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node.js, APIs, and React, plus a desire to develop both user-facing and back-end systems, you'll be a key contributor to building the future of health insurance in Texas!
NOTE: This contract position is not eligible for company benefits.
In this role, you will:
Lead the design, architecture, and delivery of a brand-new product from concept to launch, with minimal oversight.
Own the development and maintenance of secure and scalable APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and OpenAPI, ensuring they meet business needs and technical objectives.
Set and enforce front-end architecture standards, leveraging Material UI and a component library to build intuitive and accessible front-end components and webpages.
Translate ambiguous product goals into clear technical milestones, estimates, and deliverables.
Champion performance, maintainability, and operational excellence across the stack, anticipating issues before they arise.
Interpret data needs and requirements in system designs.
Influence and guide technical decisions, communicating tradeoffs effectively to technical and nontechnical audiences.
To be successful in this role, you must have: A bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
At least 4 years of experience in back-end or full-stack web application development, particularly at the server and API layer, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Strong knowledge of TypeScript, Node.js, and the server/client relationship.
Familiarity with API development, system integrations, and authentication flows.
Strong knowledge of React, Next.js, and modern web design.
SQL skills and familiarity with data contracts and databases.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Solid system design understanding and experience scaling reliable systems.
An understanding of core web and application security practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative, growth-oriented mindset.
It would be great if you have: Experience building and main modern web applications.
Familiarity with Material UI, server components, and component libraries.
Azure experience.
Knowledge of the healthcare industry or with regulated systems.
A passion for contributing to the improvement of health insurance services.
Exposure to testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity working in a startup or fast-paced product environment.
Interest in building systems that improve people's access to healthcare.
Contract Details Engagement: Up to 12 months, targeted September 2025 - August 2026
Hours: 40 hrs./week
Location: Remote within the United States; available between 09:00am-5:00pm CST time zone
Equipment & Tools: Laptop provided along with necessary software licenses
