Job Summary: As a Senior Engineer at HCL America, you will be a key technical leader responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining complex software solutions and systems for our diverse client base. You will leverage your deep technical expertise to solve challenging problems, drive continuous improvement, and mentor junior team members. This role requires a strong understanding of the entire software development lifecycle and a passion for delivering high-quality, scalable, and efficient solutions.
Key Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Solution Design: Lead the design and architecture of robust, scalable, and secure software solutions that meet client requirements and industry best practices. Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and detailed design documents. Identify and evaluate new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency. Act as a subject matter expert and provide technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
Development & Implementation: Develop, code, test, and debug high-quality software applications and systems. Automate deployment and update processes, particularly within clustered environments, using scripting languages like Shell and Jython. Install, configure, and administer application servers (e.g., WebSphere Application Server, Pivotal tcServer, IBM HTTP Server) across various operating systems (e.g., RedHat Linux, Windows Server). Support application onboarding to Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like GIT, Nexus, and Jenkins. Utilize configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet) for consistent environment setup.
System Operations & Support: Assist in migrating applications from on-premises data centers to cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure Cloud). Provide expert-level support for Linux operating systems, including volume group creation and OS patching. Monitor application performance in virtualized environments (e.g., VMware) using tools like Dynatrace, NewRelic, and Splunk. Create and manage SSL certificates and key stores for secure connections. Tune JVMs (e.g., WebSphere JVMs) and analyze heap/Java cores for performance optimization and troubleshooting. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to address production outages and conduct thorough root cause analysis. Troubleshoot and resolve critical and complex issues, implementing preventive measures to reduce future defects.
Collaboration & Mentorship: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including project leads, developers, quality assurance, and operations, to ensure seamless project delivery. Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and skill development. Contribute to knowledge sharing and best practices within the engineering team. Communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Quality & Continuous Improvement: Ensure all designs and implementations adhere to security, scalability, and quality standards. Execute continuous improvement activities and identify areas for process optimization. Generate and review product development documentation, including proposals, technical reports, and procedures.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. A Master's degree is a plus.
5+ years of progressive experience in software development, systems engineering, or a related role, with a strong focus on [specific technologies/domains, e.g., Java/J2EE development, cloud platforms, DevOps practices].
Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Scala).
Demonstrated experience with: Application server administration (e.g., WebSphere Application Server, Pivotal tcServer). Scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Jython). CI/CD tools (e.g., GIT, Nexus, Jenkins). Operating systems (e.g., RedHat Linux, Windows Server). Monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, NewRelic, Splunk). Cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL, and data pipeline orchestration (if applicable to the role).
Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet, ServiceNow) is highly desirable.
