Senior Engineer

Position Overview The role of this Senior Engineer is to support the strategy group, the engineering group, integration with various partners, business development in key pursuits from a technical standpoint and support Hanwha Defense USA objectives on a wide range of capabilities. This engineer must be interested in many different areas such as robotics, munitions, mobility, lethality, survivability, and aerospace. This engineer must be a self-starter and be able to work independently with minimal direction. This engineer must possess strong knowledge of the foreign parent operations to enhance HDUSA productivity and competitiveness. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under minimal supervision, plans, organizes, and executes technical work concerning new or existing products and/or processes. Explores various subject areas, defines scope, selects problems for investigation, formulates and presents specific proposals Develops concepts and approaches, tests and verifies concepts, and successfully implements projects relating to new and existing products within a manufacturing environment. Applies standard engineering practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes. Perform technical development work for new products and processes. Assists in project definition, approach, and coordination with Director of Strategy. Provides design and development support and oversight for prototypes, new products, tooling, and equipment. Performs engineering activities within a broad scope of expertise such as robotics, munitions, mobility, lethality, survivability, and aerospace Communicates on a technical level with other functional areas internally and externally as appropriate to the project (e.g., marketing, sales, purchasing, customers, suppliers, consultants, contractors, etc.). Professional, accurate documentation or publication of work is expected, as applicable. Recommends and/or implements changes in present procedures, processes, materials, or equipment. Explores current and future technologies to meet needs of programs and customers Is familiar with, and complies with, environmental and safety regulations pertaining to the area of expertise. Educates HDUSA personnel on proven operating and manufacturing conditions. Some evaluation, originality, or ingenuity in the work is expected. Performs other duties and assists other staff as needed. Qualifications/ Experience Five or more years of experience in a closely related field. Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently Must have experience managing a project and tracking schedules and milestones Prior defense experience or a strong interest in defense High mechanical aptitude (excellent problem-solving skills). Excellent interpersonal/team communication skills. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate and articulate concepts, ideas, and concerns relating to interpersonal, organizational, and technical issues. Excellent customer interaction skills processing the ability to create a design concept based on customer specifications. Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Reliability, and Design for Assembly experience desired The successful candidate will be able to effectively present design proposals to internal and external technical teams Education Bachelor’s degree in robotics, electrical, chemical, mechanical or aerospace engineering, Master’s Degree preferred Special Knowledge / Skills: Strong English language skills, both spoken and written. Additional language skills desired. Deep understanding of foreign parent operating conditions. Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA) Understanding of design inputs and outputs for CAE, particularly FEA/CFD. Modeling skills desired. CAD modeling skills and/or proficiency in drawings for manufacturing (CREO, Catia, etc.) Technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct and control specific projects. Ability to teach HDUSA personnel best practices from foreign parent operations. Project management Proficient in Microsoft (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) Physical Demands / Work Environment: This is a hybrid position and could require up to 20% travel both domestic and international. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger, handle, and feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and have adequate mobility to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
