ABOUT THE ROLE The Senior Electrical Engineer will work closely with the Electrical Engineering team and VP of Active Tracking Technology to design and manufacture hardware for our clients. You will be responsible for the electrical engineering, design and firmware design for tracking based products. This role, at times, will require travel to evaluate technology in the field, and evaluate design processes.
We are looking for candidates either in the Durham, NC area, or with the ability to work remotely.
YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT SMT Conceptualizing, designing, testing, and documenting electrical/electronic hardware systems and their requirements. Conduct testing and write acceptance test procedures and qualification test plans. Contributing to integrated product development teams to optimize designs and verify electrical/electronic system performance. Providing engineering assistance and troubleshooting of existing products. Participating in technical evaluations. Taking direction from the Electrical Team Lead to execute hardware and firmware projects. Conforming to SMT project management and version control standards. Working with internal and external teams as needed to prototype and develop embedded systems. Contributing to technical product proposals. Providing engineering assistance and troubleshooting to operations staff.
WHAT YOU BRING TO SMT BS in Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Systems Engineering or similar field, or comparable industry experience Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience 4+ years’ professional firmware development experience. Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with Schematic Capture & PCB Design Software (specifically KiCAD). Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with Analog electronic circuit simulator computer software (specifically LT Spice). Proficiency with C/C++ programming language on resource limited MCUs. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with PCBA Gerber generation and ordering. Experience using a logic analyzer for HW/SW integration and testing of communication Experience with common electrical test equipment: DMM, LA, O-scope, SA, etc. Relevant professional experience in embedded systems schematic capture and design. Experience with common electrical test equipment. Excellent problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to work necessary hours to reach project deadlines. Availability to travel to manufacturing facilities and suppliers as needed. What Can SMT Offer You?
