You will architect and design the power subsystems on our modular satellite bus, and bring-up, validate, and qualify your designs for the space environment.This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to be in our San Francisco, HQ 3 days per week.Impact You'll Own:Architecture, design, and schematic entry of power subsystems including MPPTs, electronic propulsion PPUs, power regulation and distribution for our fleets of nano and small satellitesOversight of PCB layout process for your designs, as well as release of drawings for manufacturingPCBA bring-up, debugging, and functional verification.With assistance of other teams, qualify design for EMI/EMC compliance, thermal performance, and ensure design can survive the high shock and vibration loads of a rocket launch.Work with the manufacturing test engineering team to define a highly automated test procedure for each PCBA.Anomaly response and troubleshooting systems for on-orbit spacecraft.What You Bring:10+ years of experience designing PCBs, with at least 5 of these years focused on power electronicsExperience designing high voltage (>500V) switching power convertersComfortable with high voltage power component selection, in particular with compound semiconductor technologies (SiC, GaN)Cross-functional design experience with mechanical/thermal and packaging constraintsFamiliarity with analog design, digital design, mixed-signal design (ADCs/DACs)Embedded systems design experienceKnowledge of PCB layout techniques for optimized power and ground routing and EMI mitigationHands-on expertise EE tools (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, etc)Experience with simulation tools for power electronicsFluency with Altium Designer for schematic captureFluency in Python or other scripting languages to control/automate test equipment (power supplies, solar array simulators, electronic loads)What Makes You Stand Out:Experience specifying or designing custom magnetics and other passives for power electronics circuitsExperience with MPPTs and solar arraysExperience with electric propulsion systemsExperience designing for high-reliability aerospace/LEO applications—designing radiation tolerant electronics, vacuum compatible hardware, frequent thermal cyclingThis position requires access to export-controlled information, and as such, employment (or hiring of a contractor) is contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.Benefits While Working at Planet:These offerings are dependent on employment type and geographical location, based upon applicable law or company policy.Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plansHealth Savings Account (HSA) with a company contributionGenerous Paid Time Off in addition to holidays and company-wide days off16 Weeks of Paid Parental LeaveWellness Program and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)Home Office ReimbursementMonthly Phone and Internet ReimbursementTuition Reimbursement and access to LinkedIn LearningEquityCommuter Benefits (if local to an office)Compensation:The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below.
