We are looking for a highly motivated Quality Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to support the quality assurance of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the full equipment lifecycle—from procurement and factory testing to site delivery and installation. In this role, you will ensure that equipment such as inverters, battery enclosures, transformers, protection systems, and auxiliary equipment meet technical, regulatory, and contractual requirements. You will work closely with engineering, supply chain, and construction teams to review vendor test procedures, participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and provide field support during installation and commissioning. A strong technical background and attention to detail are essential to drive quality throughout the ESS deployment process.
Key Responsibilities · Define and document quality requirements and acceptance criteria for major equipment used in utility-scale or commercial energy storage systems (inverters, BESS containers, transformers, switchgear, etc.). · Review and approve supplier quality documentation, including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), FAT procedures, and quality control documentation packages. · Lead or participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at OEM and integrator facilities, ensuring compliance with specifications, industry standards (IEEE, UL, IEC), and project-specific needs. · Identify and document non-conformances during testing or inspection, and drive timely root cause analysis and corrective actions with vendors. · Witness installation and site acceptance of major equipment, ensuring field quality control measures are followed and installation complies with engineered drawings and codes. · Collaborate with project managers, construction, and commissioning teams to resolve quality issues during site execution. · Support qualification and auditing of vendors and manufacturing partners. · Maintain complete and traceable quality records, including inspection reports, punch lists, and closeout documentation. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or a closely related technical field). 5–10 years of quality engineering experience in energy systems, heavy equipment, utility infrastructure, or renewable energy projects. Direct experience with the testing, qualification, or installation of BESS, inverters, or related high-voltage electrical systems. Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (IEEE 1547, UL 9540/9540A, IEC, ISO 9001, NEC). Strong technical understanding of equipment procurement and testing processes. Willingness to travel (~25–40%) to vendor locations and project sites. Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional coordination skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Tier 1 ESS integrators (e.g., Tesla, Fluence, FlexGen, Powin, Sungrow, Wärtsilä). CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification. Familiarity with SCADA/integrated control systems, protection relays, and grid-tied power electronics. Experience in EPC or turnkey delivery environments.
