Job Description
About Us
At Verogy, our mission is to "Impact Positive Change" for our clients, employees, and the environment. We operate based on a set of core values focused on driving positive, productive, and inclusive behavior. Our commitment to excellence and innovation drives us to design, develop, and implement cutting-edge solar projects that make a tangible impact on the environment and the communities we serve.
Your Impact
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Engineer to support our growing portfolio of commercial and industrial solar projects. The ideal candidate brings a strong mechanical engineering background and deep familiarity with solar construction, with a specific focus on interpreting design drawings, understanding 3D space, and bridging the gap between paper and field execution.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring that our solar installations are constructible, efficient, and aligned with real-world site conditions. Youll act as a key technical liaison between the design, construction, and field teams to drive resolution on constructability issues and facilitate timely project delivery.
Your Role:
- Review and interpret construction drawings and electrical/mechanical plans with a critical eye toward real-world feasibility and sequencing.
- Identify discrepancies between design intent and site conditions, propose solutions, and escalate issues to key project stakeholders as needed.
- Collaborate with design engineers, field teams, procurement, and subcontractors to ensure components are integrated effectively and practically on-site.
- Support the construction team in understanding and implementing technical aspects of the design.
- Coordinate with the design team to request and track drawing revisions and updates.
- Conduct field walks and site assessments to validate site conditions and compare with as-built and planned designs.
- Track and document design-related RFIs (Requests for Information) and field-driven change orders.
- Assist in quality control by ensuring all systems and components are being installed per the approved design documents and industry standards.
- Maintain familiarity with materials, components, and construction methods used in solar installations, and how systems integrate mechanically and electrically.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Procurement Managers, and field staff to support scheduling, procurement, and material take-off activities based on detailed drawing review.
- Assist with design review for the EPC-as-a-Service team during the pre-construction phase, as time allows, to ensure constructability and alignment with field execution.
What Youll Bring:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- ~5 years of relevant experience in the commercial or industrial solar industry.
- Proven experience working in a construction-oriented role, ideally with exposure to both fieldwork and design.
- Strong understanding of how mechanical and electrical components fit together in solar PV systems.
- Excellent ability to visualize and interpret 2D drawings and 3D spatial relationships.
- Familiarity with PV system components (racking, modules, inverters, electrical BOS).
- Skilled in identifying field challenges and proactively working toward solutions.
- Comfortable communicating technical issues with engineers, construction managers, subcontractors, and field personnel.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar tools for drawing review and markup.
- Basic understanding of civil/site conditions and how they impact solar installations.
- Experience working with Autodesk Civil 3D or other 3D modeling tools.
- Familiarity with NEC code as it applies to PV installations.
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification preferred.
- Knowledge of project management software such as Procore.
Work Environment
- Hybrid role with field site visits as needed.
- Must be comfortable walking construction sites, climbing ladders, and working in outdoor environments.
