The Product Engineer is responsible for providing professional services to the company. These services are related primarily to the measurement of work and unit outputs. Duties include the establishment of labor standards and the review and auditing of production or inventory to these standards. Work includes the establishment of the format to be used in the development of standard data and the use of work sampling technique to resolve questions of operator utilization or performance, control of product quality according to prints, and unit output based on archived metrics.
Investigate, install, and/or implement new methods, layout, equipment, and process that enhance the overall operation and output of the plant.
The Product Engineer also works on projects relating to work methods and equipment including such things as packaging methods and materials. Responsibilities include estimating labor standards for new or revised products. The Engineer provides product outputs to include gathering data sheets. The Engineer assists the production or inventory department leadership in evaluating products scheduled. Utilize data sheets to monitor production types according to specs. Maintain updated production files with complete and comprehensive data reflecting line or system outputs. Analyze nonstandard conditions and make recommendations for corrections/improvements. Track production practices as indicated by leadership and provide feedback. Adjust to temporary standard when required for off standard operations. Assist in development of accurate and timely manufacturing processes according to projection goals as established by leadership. Test and implement manufacturing processes. Develop material handling procedures and equipment required. Determine machine capacities and equipment loads and adjust performance outputs accordingly. Troubleshoot processes or major production problems. Perform analysis projects as needed. Assist with indirect labor procedures and equipment requirements. Perform special assignments as directed by the Engineering Manager. Provide data as requested for assigned projects. Apply the use of 5S methods to standardize production operations. Ensure that all safety requirements and safety rules are followed and always implemented. Other general labor, production, and welding duties as assigned.
