POSITION SUMMARY:
Product Engineer specializing in vinyl extrusions for siding applications and siding systems solutions including advanced vinyl composite siding products and vinyl siding accessories. The Product Engineer, Vinyl Siding will be responsible for designing, developing, launching, and improving vinyl siding products to meet market needs and company goals. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams including materials R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, sourcing, and product management to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and competitive vinyl siding solutions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Design and Development:
Develop and design new vinyl extrusion products for siding applications from concept to production.
Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and prototypes.
Analyze application requirements.
Material Science Expertise:
In conjunction with materials R&D select appropriate vinyl formulations and additives to enhance product performance, durability, and sustainability.
Understand the properties of different vinyl polymers and their impact on extrusion processes and end-use performance.
Collaborate with material suppliers to source high-quality raw materials and optimize formulations for specific applications.
Understand the thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties of vinyl materials to ensure they meet product specifications, industry standards as well as code and regulatory requirements.
Process Development and Product Improvement:
Evaluate and improve existing product designs for enhanced performance, quality, and manufacturability.
Aid in the development, implementation and optimization of extrusion processes, extrusion tooling and secondary converting processes (ie. embossing, lamination, machining, etc) for manufacturability, efficiency and cost reduction.
Testing and Validation:
Conduct product testing and validation of vinyl siding products to ensure they meet product specifications, industry standards as well as code and regulatory requirements.
Analyze test data and provide technical recommendations for product improvements.
Project Management:
Lead and manage product development projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align project goals with business objectives.
Quality Assurance:
Contribute to the development of quality control procedures to ensure product consistency and reliability.
Address and resolve any quality issues related to vinyl siding products.
Technical Support:
Provide technical product support to manufacturing, product management, sales, customer service, sourcing, and quality teams.
Troubleshoot product-related issues and develop solutions to improve customer satisfaction.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on developing vinyl extrusions and related products.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in product engineering, preferably in the vinyl extrusions or siding industry.
Proven track record of developing and launching vinyl extrusion and vinyl composite products.
Strong understanding of vinyl extrusion design, engineering, and best practices.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and FEA tools..
Strong understanding of polymer materials and extrusion processes.
working knowledge of material science principles, particularly related to vinyl and other polymers.
Ability to conduct material selection and working knowledge to assess formulation, and characterization for specific applications.
Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Master’s degree in Engineering
Broad experience in vinyl products within the fenestration and building products industry as well as exposure to other functional areas (i.e. operations, procurement, product management, product development, R&D) incl. a proven track record of proven success will set you apart
