The Process Engineer initiates manufacturing process-related ideas, concepts, or procedures to ensure conformity to customer specifications and production capabilities. Develops process technology to improve existing capability, considering factors such as cost, efficiency, schedules, and raw material availability.
Essential Duties:
Responsible for developing manufacturing technology and improving manufacturing processes as they apply to the production of wire and cable products. Accomplish engineering tasks that require technical data gathering and analysis, problem identification and resolution, process evaluation, cost analysis and reduction, as well as justification for capital projects. Initiates ideas, suggestions, and recommendations within the area of assigned projects. Assists in controlling manufacturing processes by recommending the most efficient use of equipment, materials, and workforce. Diagnosis of manufacturing problems as they relate to machinery, materials, and processes; identifies and implements appropriate corrective actions. Directly involved in scrap reduction. Assists in developing improved methods of manufacturing to reduce scrap, limit excessive usage of raw materials, and develop efficient and economical means of salvaging scrap. Assists in special projects dealing with cost reduction studies, equipment utilization and downtime reduction, auditing quality control procedures, instructing manufacturing supervision in new processes and procedures, training of operators in new manufacturing techniques, and general "troubleshooting" of manufacturing processes. Keep abreast of new processes, latest manufacturing process methods, and technologies. Conducts investigations to recommend, justify and implement capital projects for process improvements, cost reductions, etc. Provides liaison between Operations, Engineering, and Application Engineering to coordinate cost reductions, new process implementations and new product introductions. Assist with the development of new tooling in support of continuous improvement initiatives. Support and participate in Lean/6S and continuous improvement initiatives Support programs related to operational improvements on the shop floor. Includes, but not limited to, activities pertaining to: Product quality improvements Efficiency and productivity improvements Process improvements and process cost reductions Control of material usage and scrap reduction Equipment utilization and downtime reduction Resolve issues in a manner consistent with company mission, values, and objectives. These are the general duties required to fulfil the Process Engineer job description, not a detailed description of all the work required. Minimum Education and Experience Preferred: BS in Engineering with Mechanical or Chemical Engineering strongly preferred. Experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge and Skills Preferred: Hands-on wire and cable experience is highly preferred. Must be able to perform complex arithmetic, statistics, and other specific mathematical applications. Proficient in Microsoft Office or equivalent tools. Ability to utilize various statistical analysis tools. Ability to read and write clearly. Strong ability to organize and prioritize works tasks efficiently. Solid ability to perform basic functions in PLC controllers. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers with specific requirements and specifications. Ability to communicate with all levels of employees. Must be able to multi-task, follow priorities given, and have strong troubleshooting techniques. Self-starter: ability to work with minimal supervision. Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that can be noisy. Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE. Ability to work long hours while standing and operating machinery. Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position sitting, talking, looking at a computer, charts/graphs and performing repetitive motions. Ability to work in high temperatures. Ability to move objects and materials of at least 25lbs.
