Job Description

Inland Empire Paper Company is a state-of-the-art paper manufacturing facility in Spokane, Washington.  We seek an experienced and highly motivated individual that performs engineering work in the analysis, planning and control of the manufacturing process.  Tasks include leading manufacturing optimization projects, daily process troubleshooting and problem solving, improving equipment productivity and efficiency, material consumption reduction, working with chemical and equipment suppliers to implement continuous improvements, and overseeing and optimizing environmental water treatment operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement process trials in the major production areas including the pulp mill, paper machine, and water treatment.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects designed to improve/increase productivity, process efficiency, chemical use reduction, cost reduction and new product development.
  • Collaborate in a team with oversight, management, and strategic operations of the water treatment system to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Extract and analyze data, and other mill information, to facilitate routine monitoring, continuous improvement, and problem solving. Collaborate with other mill staff on updating and improving operational access to mill historian.
  • Compile technical data in support of regulatory and environmental compliance, including technical writing intended for public distribution.
  • Develop professional, productive relationships with mill staff to facilitate the functions of all departments, including operations, maintenance, process control, project engineering, safety, and environmental. Contribute to production team meetings, as needed.
  • Develop professional, productive relationships with chemical and equipment suppliers to enhance their assistance with mill objectives through technical and operational services.
  • Be a self-starter, self-directed, self-motivator and multi-task effectively.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering for Chemical, Industrial, Bioresource, Mechanical, Environmental, or related field required. Formal classwork in pulp and paper science desired, but not required.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of work experience in relevant industrial engineering positions. Work experience in the forest products or pulp and paper industry desired, but not required.
  • Strong analytical skills to organize, interpret and draw conclusions from data.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively with plant operations, maintenance, superintendents, suppliers, and others to solve problems and execute solutions.
  • High level of proficiency in organizational skills and ability to handle overall management of multiple engineering projects.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office. Computer proficiency in distributed control systems or similar process control programs is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills especially related to change management
  • Knowledge of pulp and paper manufacturing desired, but not required
  • Familiarity with Washington State environmental regulations desired but not required.
  • Possible schedule rotation or other needs to cover 24/365 operation
  • Non-smoking, drug-free workplace


Additional Information

  • The process engineer is a salaried position. Pay range is $90k to $110k per year depending on experience and education.

Some holidays may be worked depending on the crew rotation.
