Help us shape the future.The Medtronic Energy and Component Center (MECC) in Brooklyn Center, MN designs, develops, and manufactures the energy components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses. In this exciting role, MECC is looking to hire a Principal Equipment Development Engineer withcontrol systems and vision system experienceto join a growing team designing and developing manufacturing equipment for new product and capacity expansion projects. The Principal Equipment Engineer performs as a technical lead from the initial design through the qualification of the equipment (custom-made automated, servo-mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical manufacturing systems).
A Day in the Life Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Evaluates, selects and orders equipment that is most appropriate and cost effective for the manufacture of company products. Oversees the installation, modification, upgrade and maintenance of manufacturing equipment. Maintains current records on equipment manufacturers' technical notices, upgrades and safety issues. Studies equipment performance and reliability. Establishes programs and solutions for increasing uptime and for equipment problems that affect the manufacturing process. Provides technical support to the manufacturing equipment repair and process engineering organizations. Defines and writes preventative maintenance schedules. Works with the equipment design and tooling design teams to define requirements. Completes equipment and tooling design, characterization, and qualifications for medium to high complexity equipment. Must Have: Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree required Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Nice to Have BS degree in Engineering or a related discipline. Significant experience in defining tooling requirements, die designs, and integration into mechanized and automated equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of custom equipment design including automated, servo-mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical systems. Solid understanding of machine vision principles and image processing techniques. Experience with equipment integrator selection and partnership including design reviews and FAT/SAT. Strong CAD/SOLIDWORKS, drafting practices, GD&T, and tolerance analysis experience. Significant experience with medium volume assembly and test equipment technologies, including validation protocols(IQ / OQ / PQ / MSA).
