Overview Internal Posting: This is an internal posting for current PCCT's that work on 5 Med/Surg. The 5th floor Medical/Surgical unit is a 20-bed unit. The 5 Med/Surg staff primarily cares for adult patients who are recovering from surgery, but may also care for those that are acutely ill with a wide variety of medial problems and diseases. The primary patient population on this unit is general surgery and total joint replacements (i.e. hip and knee). Under the supervision of an RN, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides direct patient care. Performs procedures for patients and provides technical services and support. Assists patients with activities of daily living.

Answers patient call lights.

Assists with simple procedures as defined in work area

Takes and records vital signs and weights.

Monitors and records intake and output.

Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens including transport of patients with traction.

Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment.

Performs procedures specific to the assigned area.

Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.

Obtains adequate blood specimens as defined in work area.

Labels all specimens in accordance with standards.

Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position. Preferred or Specialized Not required to perform the essential functions of the position. Education: High school diploma/GED or currently & actively working towards completion of diploma/GED · Successful completion of Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) program with active registration on Iowa Direct Care Registry · OR at least at a junior level in an accredited BSN program Experience: Previous healthcare experience License(s)/Certification(s): Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or within three (3) months from date of hire. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: · Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. · Multicultural sensitivity. · Basic computer skills. · Customer/patient focused.
