This role is connected to the Air Force National Capital Region IT Services Program (AFNCR ITS). The Network Systems Engineer will assess systems, diagnose issues, provide solutions, design upgrades, maintain systems, and brainstorm future improvements. This position is 100% onsite at Joint Base Andrews, MD and requires an active Secret clearance to start. The AFNCR IT Services program offers vital support for information systems for entities including the Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). Key Responsibilities: Continuously monitor infrastructure system networks for messages, alarms, and issues.
Identify problems and resolve them as needed, escalating issues when necessary.
Troubleshoot issues using scripts and standard procedures, escalating as appropriate.
Initiate necessary resolutions for enterprise-level routers and switches.
Collaborate with vendors to ensure efficient resolution during network outages or performance declines.
Process Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI's) as per management's direction.
Maintain the required security posture on all network equipment, complying with DoD and local command mandates, including updates and security requirements.
Support special projects and daily operations as assigned by the site lead.
Participate in an on-call rotation schedule.
Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of related experience; additional relevant experience may compensate for lack of a degree.
Current DoD Secret security clearance required.
Active CompTIA Security+ or CCNP Security certification.
Active CCNA Certification.
Expertise in LAN switching (VLANs, VLAN Trunk Protocol, Port Security, and Spanning Tree).
Proficient in Layer 3 routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS) and implementation best practices.
Strong knowledge in L1/L2 network troubleshooting (Unclassified and Classified).
Expertise in DoD network and application security hardening requirements.
Experience in programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting encryption devices at network points of presence.
Familiarity with DoD COMSEC management processes and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Cisco ISE and Cisco DNA.
Understanding of Air Force, Pentagon, or AFNCR operations.
Experience working at the Pentagon or Joint Base Andrews (JBA).
Required Certifications: Active CompTIA Security+ or CCNP Security certification / Active CCNA Certification.
