Network Engineer Position Summary
The ideal candidate will have the expertise to design and maintain complex network infrastructure architectures. As a hands-on role, the Senior Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability and integrity of voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This includes installing, monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network infrastructure components. Additionally, the role involves managing system access and safeguarding the confidentiality and integrity of student, staff, and faculty information in accordance with organizational policies and standards. The person in this position is expected to professionally represent Delaware County Community College and promote a student-centered customer service approach. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated problem solver with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. They must demonstrate patience, adaptability, and a commitment to providing high-quality support to faculty, staff, and students.
Essential Functions
Responsible for configuring, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting all network and security hardware and software, including firewalls, switches /routers (Extreme, Juniper and Cisco), F5 Load Balancers, and Palo Alto Firewalls. Responsible for secure configuration and maintenance of core networking and authentication services, including NTP, DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, and 802.1x. Plan, design, and install network infrastructure components and changes to ensure the stable operation of the organization's IT assets. Work with external vendors, including MPLS, Fiber, Internet Service, and Cloud Hosting providers, to provide optimal network conditions and security for the College's external connectivity. Responsible for configuring, managing, monitoring, and securing network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, and Network Access Control (NAC) systems, to ensure compliance with security policies, mitigate threats, and protect organizational data. Configure VLANs, VRRP, EVPN-VXLAN, EIGRP, BGP, Layer 2/3 switching, OSPF, Spanning Tree, Static Routing, PIM, Multicast on network equipment. Maintain accurate documentation and diagrams for operational and planning purposes Operate and optimize existing fiber optic backbone that interconnects multiple campuses and the Internet. This includes CWDM/DWDM and related technologies Provide level III technical support for network and security issues. Prioritizes work responsibilities appropriately and completes tasks within deadlines under minimal supervision. Documents and tracks work in project/ticketing systems. Informs management about problems or obstacles that may impact deliverables and makes recommendations to mitigate the impact. Establishes and implements network policies, procedures, and standards. ssist in designing, implementing, and executing disaster recovery processes and business continuity procedures for network infrastructure. Non-Essential Functions ttend relevant conferences and/or workshops as necessary to maintain professional knowledge and/or applicable certification(s). Completes special projects specific to the Department function as directed by supervision.
Experience, Education, and Licensure Minimum Experience: 6+ years of hands-on enterprise-level network engineering experience; extensive experience working with various router and switch platforms, as well as load balancers and firewalls. Strong experience with enterprise DHCP/DNS and NTP is required, along with extensive knowledge of IPv4 and some experience with IPv6. Additionally, experience in designing and implementing redundant network architectures is highly valued. Scripting knowledge is a plus. Minimum Education: Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience. Extreme, Juniper, F5, Cisco, Palo Alto, Infoblox Certification a plus

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is primarily indoors; in a school library setting with adults. Limited travel in local area to visit DCCC college campuses, attend events, meetings, programs, and community locations is required. Position will require occasional one-day or infrequent multiple-day trips to attend conferences seminars, and meetings or to represent the college. Will require working non-traditional hours to include evenings and weekends based on college events or operational needs.
