This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected toperform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrateleadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsible for design, planning, implementation and operations of networking infrastructure includinghigh- level technical support for local-area-network (LAN) relating to the agency-wide video surveillancesystem. Works closely with support staff and vendors to evaluate, select and implement new video technologiesand services. Supports all aspects of the agency's video surveillance system in residential facilities (26 sitesstatewide) consisting of 42 video servers, 26 storage area networks (SANS), 100+ managed network switches andapprox 1500 video cameras. Support includes upkeep, improvements and performance of the private internalnetwork, video software and hardware used by the video surveillance system. Ensures there are no general connections between security system and the Commonwealth Office ofTechnology (COT) area wide network (WAN) and ensures viewing is restricted to staff on their local nonroutable private network. Assists local staff, when required, making archival copies of incidents and ensuresthe archived video is transferred to the approved video storage site. Working with the video supervisor and branch manager, assists in developing budget requests and acomprehensive maintenance plan to keep video hardware and software reliable and operational. Provides support as required for the agency's legacy web applications. Provides hardware and softwaresupport for windows computers and servers. Position requires extensive travel throughout Kentucky supportingvarious DJJ facilities. Good communication skills are essential to be able to work with clients and co-workers to collaborate anddeliver on projects and troubleshooting security systems, networks, and cameras. Attends meetings and trainings as required. Prefer experience in network LAN & WAN support and or managing ethernet and POE endpoints.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR a graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in information technology (IT) or related field OR certification in an IT related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of professional network experience in network support and administration.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Two years of additional experience in professional network support and administration will substitute for the education requirement.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
