Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Network Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing and maintaining our IP network infrastructure. This role requires advanced knowledge in various network technologies, including XGS-PON, passive optical network topologies, CMTS operations, DOCSIS technologies, and more. Responsibilities: Collaborate with Engineering, Technology, and Technical Operations departments, including network engineers, operations engineers, sales engineers, customers, vendors, and management, to ensure effective network design and deployment. Perform tasks of high complexity related to the design, maintenance, and problem analysis of IP network access and IP transport equipment. Generate comprehensive Work Requests and Engineering Packages detailing all work to be completed by Technical Operations, System Operations, and other relevant teams. Assist and guide Network Technicians and Operations Engineers in the installation, configuration, turn-up, and modification of network equipment. Participate in annual budget planning for network projects and improvements. Contribute to network planning and deployment strategies to enhance network performance and efficiency. Develop and implement Methods of Procedure (MOP) and project work plans to streamline network operations. Create detailed documentation of Armstrong's network systems and topologies, both new and existing. Provide troubleshooting and repair support for network systems and equipment to the Operations team. Support Armstrong's Network Management Systems and assist with additions/modifications as needed. Offer direction and guidance for policy and procedure creation related to Armstrong's engineering Best Practices and network design. Perform other related tasks as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in an engineering or computer science field (preferred) or an associate degree in a technical discipline with relevant work experience (considered). 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a Broadband Service Provider IP Network Operations role. Advanced knowledge and experience with XGS-PON and passive optical network topologies. Advanced knowledge of CMTS operations, DOCSIS technologies, and related provisioning methodologies. Cisco certification (or equivalent vendor certification) is preferred. Familiarity with DWDM optical transport network solutions, including ROADM, OSNR, dispersion compensation, optical amplification, and related concepts. Proficiency in transport device hardware and software, such as Cisco, Ekinops, Ciena, etc. Knowledge of network and system management software (e.g., Cisco Prime, Blue Planet). Strong understanding of various networking standards and protocols, including OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP, Ethernet, VLAN tagging, spanning tree protocols, DNS, DHCP, NAT, CGN, SIP, MGCP, RTP, and others. Skills and Abilities: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Team player with a willingness to share information, collaborate, and assist others. Availability for non-standard shift assignments and overnight travel during maintenance windows.
