Mobile Engineer (React Native + AWS)

Job Description
The Dogtopia Technology team is seeking a skilled Mobile Engineer with expertise in React Native and AWS to help drive the continued development and enhancement of our Dogtopia mobile app and supporting services. This role will focus on delivering high-quality, performant mobile experiences that delight our pet parents and franchise teams. You’ll work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and backend engineers to build features that support our rapidly growing business. This role will report to the Director of Data and Integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain new features and improvements for the Dogtopia mobile app on iOS and Android using React Native.
- Integrate mobile applications with backend services and AWS infrastructure to ensure robust functionality and scalability.
- Implement user interfaces that are intuitive, accessible, and responsive.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve issues to maintain a seamless user experience.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with appropriate test coverage.
- Optimize mobile applications for performance, speed, and efficient resource utilization.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving engineering standards and practices.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mobile development and cloud integration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience developing mobile applications, with significant experience using React Native.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
- Experience integrating mobile apps with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Cognito, DynamoDB, etc.
- Solid understanding of mobile performance optimization and debugging tools.
- Familiarity with mobile app deployment processes for both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
- Self-starter with strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferable but not Required
- Familiarity with AWS Amplify or other mobile-specific AWS toolchains.
- Experience integrating mobile apps with payment gateways or transactional systems.
- Knowledge of mobile app monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Firebase, Sentry, Datadog).
- Experience working on apps supporting multi-location or franchise businesses.
- Interest or experience in industries like pet services, retail, or hospitality.
