Amentum is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with the technical expertise to implement solutions, evaluate products, and build upon an infrastructure that supports the changing needs of our customers. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for preparing and/or maintaining operations documentation, procedures, and methods including user manuals and reference manuals. Provides or coordinates special documentation services as required. Competent to work at a high level of all phases of documentation. May act as project leader. The unique test site we support is perpetually in a state of planning, integration, and test execution. This fast-paced program requires initiative, teamwork, and the ability to effectively communicate across all organizational levels. The team is multi-organizational, and roles span from senior program managers to engineers, to on-site technicians, logistics, budget, and everything in-between. It is, therefore, critical for this role to be able to communicate complex ideas to a broad and occasionally non-technical audience in support of program priorities. The environment demands attention to detail while never losing sight of the big picture, in short, execution within the broader strategy. Required Education and Experience: Technical degree, BA/BS and 3 to 10+ years of related experience, or 15 years of relevant experience in an Engineering field are required Degree in an Engineering discipline is preferable Able to review and maintain engineering documentation including auditing the design engineering, plus the production of technical specifications and support the process of integration. Experience with variable frequency drive motors, pneumatic systems, and/or hydraulic systems preferred. Work with document management representatives to ensure all project documentation is complete and stored in the appropriate repositories. Resolve field-initiated questions on engineering, visit jobsite, aid in the resolution of technical issues; resolve a wide range of design and constructability issues in creative ways to provide resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems. Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical reports. Demonstrate the ability to audit designs. Implementing the design configuration and ensuring, via controlled and authorized change, that the design configuration is declared and maintained. Experienced with testing facility projects, change management, and engagement with field personnel. Prepare engineering changes and manage the preparation of supporting and affected documents. US Citizen, security clearance eligible Preferred Skills and Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have significant experience with integration and testing. Hands-on technical leadership is critical to modernize our testing platforms to meet continuously evolving needs. The role requires the ability to actively participate in implementation while leading the technical team, and a demonstrated record of generating cradle to grave quick-react solutions. In Participate in maintenance and integration walk-throughs to ensure site understanding and preparation for upcoming activity (operationally, technically, and logistically). In an R&D testing environment, things often go wrong; this role will need to identify issues, clarify the problems, communicate them, and work to develop solutions. This role requires strong judgment, effective communication skills, and an ability to respond to the unexpected. Experience in DOD-related test programs is preferred. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and remote. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. For “remote” positions, the salary to be offered is geographic dependent. Typical salary range for this position is $125,000 to $145,000 and is commensurate with experience relative to the position. Essential Functions for Position Physical Requirements: May include lifting weights up to forty (40) pounds as necessary. Work Environment: Can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting). Outside work may include various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates. Needs to be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management. No hazards on job or unusual environmental conditions. Equipment and Machines: Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine, and other work-related tools including desk supplies. Possess heavy and light equipment licenses, or the ability to obtain the necessary licenses. Attendance: Normal hours are Monday – Thursday between 6:00 am to 4:00 pm during flex weeks, 6:00 am to 3:00 pm on non-flex weeks. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. Attendance is considered essential, with exceptions for STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off. Other Essential Functions: Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management, and co-workers. Must have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not pose a safety risk. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating professionally. Independent personal transportation to work site is required. Travel up to 10% to support projects, possibly involving airline travel. When operating any vehicle for work, must wear a seat belt and refrain from using cellular devices while driving.
