Machine Learning & Signal Processing Algorithms Engineer San Diego, California, United States Machine Learning and AI Description This is a key position at a focal point of HW/SW/UI integration with lots of collaboration opportunities among different fields. Starting from early in the product lifecycle, this engineer will analyze sensor data, design algorithms to preprocess data, extract feature and prototype algorithms to enable expected user interactions. Communicate the findings back to the team and leadership and closely collaborate on HW/SW co-design to find the best solution for the ultimate user experience. You will lead a strong engineering team to productize these algorithms. You will closely collaborate with partner teams throughout the product life cycle, developing figure of metrics to guarantee algorithm performance at different stages, design and implement algorithmic mitigations as needed, provide critical support during production phase, support new form factors and design and implement new user facing features. Your experience with designing algorithms to process time series sensor data and extract features that can enable user interactions along with rapid prototyping skills to show proof of concept and on-device implementation would be essential. Experience with user interface design will further help broaden your role and effectiveness in this position. Minimum Qualifications Background in signal processing, time series analysis, adaptive filters, machine learning, linear algebra, statistics, etc. Software programming skills in C, C++ and Python (embedded/resource constrained implementation for algorithms) Experience with object-oriented programming and common design patterns BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. degree in CS (preferred), or other STEM fields such as EE, or Statistics. M.S. in CS/EE/Math with at least 5 years of experience in research and development of embedded algorithms Rapid prototyping experience with embedded systems Experience in human computer interaction (HCI) space Experience in designing user study protocols and data analysis Familiarity with cloud processing platforms like AWS/GCP Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skill. At least 4 years managing/leading an engineering team. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $171,600 and $302,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
