About the Facility:
Isuzu North America Corporation is investing approximately $280 million to establish a new production facility in Greenville County, South Carolina. This 1 million-square-foot, state-of-the-art plant-set on over 200 acres-will feature a flexible production line capable of manufacturing both internal combustion and electric vehicles. Production will include the N-Series Gas, N-Series Electric, and F-Series Diesel trucks. Operations are expected to launch in 2027, with expansion slated for 2028. Strategically located near I-85, I-26, and the Port of Charleston, the site supports streamlined logistics and consolidated operations under one roof. This initiative is projected to create over 700 new jobs in the area.
Job Summary:
The Logistics Engineer is responsible for designing and executing in-plant logistics strategies that align with production goals and product development initiatives. This role ensures optimized material flow, storage, and handling processes that support efficient and effective manufacturing operations through a focus on Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery (SQCD). The engineer identifies gaps between current operations and ideal logistics conditions and leads improvement efforts to achieve operational excellence.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute in-plant logistics plans aligned with production strategies and project timelines.
- Optimize logistics operations using SQCD principles to ensure safe, high-quality, cost-effective, and timely material handling.
- Analyze current logistics processes and identify deviations from ideal states.
- Investigate root causes of inefficiencies and implement data-driven countermeasures.
- Improve material flow, inventory control, and space utilization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate logistics and production efforts.
- Monitor logistics KPIs and adapt plans based on evolving production demands.
- Contribute to standardized work creation and continuous improvement in logistics systems.
- Other duties as assigned in support of operations.
Required Education, Training, & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a relevant engineering role, preferably in automotive manufacturing
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of TQM, SPC, and related quality control methodologies
- Strong understanding of in-plant logistics management
- Familiarity with material handling systems and best practices
- Knowledge of lean logistics, JIT, and kanban systems
- Experience in logistics improvement projects using tools like value stream mapping and root cause analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD tools for layout design and logistics simulations
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and prepare technical documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Skilled in preparing technical reports and professional presentations
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Experience in high-volume or automotive manufacturing
- Working knowledge of ERP or WMS systems
