Our Information Technologies Team is seeking an on-site Linux Systems Administrator/Engineer. You would be responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of secure, reliable, and scalable Linux-based infrastructure for engineering teams. The position requires close collaboration with IT, DevOps, and Engineering to deliver high-performance computing environments, support development tools, and ensure consistent system availability and security. Responsibilities also include project participation, technical troubleshooting, and strategic contributions to infrastructure improvements. The essential duties and responsibilities include:
Collaborates with hardware, software, and DevOps teams to design, implement, and support Linux-based solutions for both servers and desktops.
Develops, maintains, and administers Linux compute farms and associated systems, including user management and access control.
Administers logging and log aggregation tools; analyzes logs for performance optimization and security incident detection.
Leads or contributes to IT infrastructure projects of varying scale across engineering and operations.
Manages installation, licensing, and maintenance of engineering software tools.
Interfaces with third-party vendors to evaluate and integrate external services that enhance internal capabilities.
Oversees the setup and maintenance of engineering lab environments, including computers and networking infrastructure.
Maintains and manages version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN), including migration and documentation.
Supports engineers with scripting, automation tasks, and general programming assistance.
Ensures robust hardware and software security, including system hardening, patching, antivirus, and endpoint protection.
Manages patch deployment and antivirus updates across Linux desktops and servers.
Continuously evaluates new technologies, participating in relevant training and recommending improvements as appropriate.
Provides mentorship to other IT staff and contributes to cross-training initiatives.
Maintains thorough and up-to-date IT documentation.
Available on-site during core hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM) and for occasional after-hours support or maintenance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Develops relationships with team members built on trust and respect.
Education and work experience requirements are:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
5 years (10 or more years' in lieu of degree) experience in similar role.
To be considered for this position, you would need to meet, at a minimum, the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed here:
Deep expertise in enterprise Linux environments, particularly Ubuntu.
Strong background in supporting high-availability systems for web, application, and database services (e.g., Apache, MySQL).
Familiarity with Linux-based development tools and services, including: Version Control: Git, SVN
Issue Tracking: JAMA, Trac
Project Management: JIRA
Workload Schedulers: LSF, Grid Engine, PBS
Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes
Knowledge of integration between Linux and Windows environments (PBIS, LDAP).
Solid understanding of IT infrastructure including Windows Server, Active Directory, networking, and security technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, encryption).
Proficient in virtualization technologies, especially VMware.
Experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
Skilled in leveraging open-source tools to streamline and enhance engineering workflows.
Expert in SSH configuration and key-based authentication.
Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python); additional programming or DevOps experience (e.g., Jenkins) is a plus.
Familiarity with engineering toolchains (compilers, FPGA/ASIC tools) is a plus.
Demonstrates comprehensive cybersecurity knowledge for Linux in enterprise settings, including system hardening, vulnerability scanning, patching, and endpoint detection and response (EDR).

Additional requirements are:
U.S. Citizenship.
Ability to obtain a security clearance is required.

TrellisWare Technologies pays competitively according to the market in an individual's geographic location, in addition to their qualifications and experience. The posted range is for individuals located in the San Diego, CA area. The pay range for this position is: $110,000-150,000 annually.
