In this challenging yet rewarding role, you will support a high-profile initiative with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, focusing on deploying and managing a sophisticated network that encompasses various customer sites and the cloud. We seek a talented engineer to design, procure, and implement network systems that comply with Department of Defense (DoD) specifications.
As part of this role, you will develop comprehensive network architectures, collaborate with procurement teams for hardware and software acquisition, and supervise the installation and configuration of critical network hardware, including TACLANES, routers, switches, and firewalls. Your contributions are essential in conducting tests to verify system functionality and security compliance while maintaining meticulous documentation and providing technical support to team members and end-users. Additionally, you'll manage and configure COMSEC equipment and participate in 24/7 monitoring of our customer networks from the Leidos Network Operations Center.
*Note: This position will require the ability to work rotating shifts.*
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead the creation of detailed network designs for hardware and software that align with DoD standards.
Work closely with procurement teams to identify and secure hardware and software that meet project requirements.
Oversee the installation and configuration of various network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.
Perform in-depth testing of network systems to ensure they function correctly, perform optimally, and comply with security standards.
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that occur during installation and testing.
Maintain detailed documentation for network configurations, installations, and modifications.
Develop and update network diagrams and other essential technical documents.
Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
Ensure accurate inventory management of COMSEC materials, including keying equipment and cryptographic keys, following security protocols.
Lead the installation, operation, and maintenance of COMSEC equipment and software, ensuring they meet security requirements.
Provide technical assistance and advice to team members and end-users.
Stay informed on DoD policies and best practices regarding network security and design.
Implement robust security measures to safeguard network infrastructure and data.
Basic Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. citizen with at least a Top Secret Clearance. Eligibility for SCI access required prior to start date.
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Solid understanding of protocols, security standards, and design principles for OSI Layers 1-4.
Extensive experience in the installation and configuration of physical networking equipment and Local Area Networks (LANs).
Proven experience in designing and deploying Wide Area Networks (WANs) using Virtual Private Networking (VPN) technologies.
Familiarity with cloud networking solutions, especially Microsoft Azure (e.g., vNETs, VPN Gateway, Virtual WAN, Express Routes, Azure Firewall).
Experience in configuring and managing COMSEC devices.
Ability to interpret and utilize network management and troubleshooting tools, including ICMP, SNMPv3, and Syslog.
Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or other comparable certifications that meet DoD 8140 requirements (e.g., JNCIA, PCNSA, AZ-700, CISSP).
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with DoD networks, particularly classified and operational systems.
Knowledge of operating and utilizing cryptographic devices to secure networking over a VPN.
Experience in configuring VPNs through technologies like Juniper Secure Connect, Azure VPN Gateway, MPLS, IPsec VPN, or other site-to-site VPN solutions.
Experience with remote network management utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC).
Current qualification from the NSA COMSEC Manager Course.
Experience with network performance monitoring and optimization techniques.
Strong grasp of cybersecurity practices and risk management, particularly at OSI layers 1-3.
Previous leadership or mentoring experience within a technical team.
Awareness of emerging technologies and trends in network infrastructure.

Pay Range: $104,650.00 - $189,175.00
