The Field Service Engineer – Automation will play a pivotal role in supporting the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and remote troubleshooting of advanced automation systems used in marine and energy infrastructure. This role operates under minimal supervision and involves frequent site visits—both at sea and in shipyards—to ensure systems are installed and operating to the highest technical standards.
Field Service Engineer - Marine Automation Responsibilities Perform hands-on commissioning and start-up of automation systems during vessel construction at client sites
Troubleshoot control system issues during scheduled port visits or offshore operations; implement corrective actions and report findings
Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation such as test procedures, commissioning records, and service logs
Act as onsite project lead, managing service activities and supporting technical resolution for client systems
Train customer personnel on the operation and maintenance of automation systems and control interfaces
Coordinate closely with internal teams including parts, engineering, and technical support to optimize customer service delivery
Identify and communicate opportunities for system upgrades or additional services to improve client operations
Participate in support and planning activities for inspection schedules and maintenance programs
Assist proposal development and technical input for control system upgrades and modernization bids
Provide after-hours and emergency response service when required
Ensure all safety protocols are followed in accordance with site and maritime regulations when working onboard vessels or at shipyard sites
Complete service reports and administrative duties accurately and in a timely manner
Field Service Engineer - Marine Automation Position Requirements
Minimum 3 years of field experience in commissioning or service of automation systems in a marine or industrial setting
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance for defense-related projects
Able and willing to travel frequently (up to 85%) with limited notice
Physically able to work in offshore environments and board vessels
Must successfully complete offshore survival and HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) certification
Field Service Engineer - Marine Automation Preferred Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Associate’s degree with additional experience also considered)
Strong leadership and independent problem-solving skills; able to work solo or lead small field teams
Prior experience working directly with customers in service or commissioning roles
Proficient in MS Office and comfortable working with technical documentation and service tools
Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to high-demand environments
Willingness to work extended hours or weekends during peak periods or emergency assignments
Experience navigating construction-type environments with potential exposure to loud noise, temperature extremes, moving equipment, and slippery surfaces; PPE usage is required
