We are seeking a  hands-on Lead Backend Engineer  to help build a new  Futures Commodity Commissions Market (FCM) platform —a greenfield, regulated financial trading product focused on binary sports prediction markets. This is a rare opportunity to shape the architecture and implementation of a  federally regulated financial system  from the ground up. You'll be responsible for designing and developing core backend services for a compliant, low-latency trading platform, working closely with architects, compliance leads, and frontend engineers. You must be a  strong developer first , capable of owning complex services end-to-end, while also mentoring team members and influencing architectural decisions. This is not a management role—it is a  hands-on, high-impact engineering position  for someone passionate about building real-time, resilient, and secure systems. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and deploy  backend services that support: A performant  Order Management System (OMS)  for trade matching and execution. Clearing House integration  for trade settlement and funds movement. Regulatory compliance modules  for pre-trade/post-trade checks and reporting (CFTC, NFA). Back office reporting and reconciliation  tools for statements, balances, and DCO communication. Write high-quality, production-grade code using  .NET Core and C++ , with an emphasis on performance, correctness, and maintainability. Define and build scalable APIs, ensuring seamless integration with frontend systems (SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose, Next.js). Own technical decisions across services, including data modeling, service boundaries, observability, and error handling. Deploy, monitor, and support backend systems in a  cloud-native AWS environment  (DynamoDB, Kafka, EC2, EKS). Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, compliance teams, and fellow engineers to iterate on requirements and deliver production-ready solutions. Guide and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and technical support, while staying hands-on with daily development tasks. Identify opportunities to integrate third-party services or open-source components to accelerate delivery. Tech Stack & Tools Languages:  .NET Core (C#), C++ Architecture:  Microservices, event-driven systems Cloud:  AWS (EC2, EKS, DynamoDB, Kafka, CloudWatch) Data:  Real-time messaging, secure audit logs, low-latency data models DevOps:  CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) Compliance Frameworks:  CFTC, NFA, financial regulatory protocols Required Qualifications 8+ years of backend development experience in high-throughput, low-latency environments. Proven,  hands-on experience building trading systems , exchange platforms, or other regulated financial applications. Strong programming skills in  .NET Core  and  C++ , with the ability to design for performance, safety, and concurrency. Experience with  AWS cloud infrastructure  and deploying services in production environments. Deep understanding of  financial trade lifecycles , including order routing, clearing, and post-trade reporting. Demonstrated ability to build and expose APIs via an  API Gateway , working in close sync with frontend teams. Familiarity with  CFTC, NFA , or other financial compliance frameworks. Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with  sports betting ,  binary markets , or  prediction market platforms . Exposure to  federally regulated financial systems , as opposed to state-level gaming regulation. Experience integrating third-party systems such as  FIS  or clearing house APIs. Practical knowledge across  Front, Mid, and Back Office systems  in trading environments. What You’ll Bring You’re a  builder  who thrives on writing code and solving complex technical problems. You’ve shipped production systems in  regulated financial environments . You care about performance, testability, and long-term maintainability. You value clarity, autonomy, and high ownership in engineering work.
