We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to play a key role in designing, building, and managing advanced data solutions in support of critical cyber and intelligence initiatives.

Position Overview

In today's connected world, the explosion of data from IoT, AI, and other emerging technologies creates unprecedented opportunities-as well as challenges. As a Lead Data Engineer at Quantam, you'll architect and maintain the pipelines and platforms that transform raw, disparate data into actionable intelligence. You'll work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment alongside analysts, developers, and fellow engineers to ensure data is organized, accessible, and meaningful for mission-critical decision-making.

This role calls for both technical leadership and hands-on expertise, guiding project direction while delivering solutions that are robust, scalable, and secure.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex ETL processes and data pipelines using tools such as NiFi or Elasticsearch . Develop, maintain, and optimize data models and database schemas for structured and unstructured datasets. Oversee the build-out and maintenance of scalable data architectures, including Data Lakes and Data Lakehouses . Write, review, and optimize code in programming languages such as Python , Java , or Scala . Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align data engineering solutions with client objectives and security requirements. Provide technical mentorship, support decision-making, and ensure best practices are applied across the team. Maintain rigorous data governance, security protocols, and compliance with federal standards. Required Qualifications Proven experience leading technical teams and guiding architectural decisions. Hands-on experience with ETL development and data integration tools (NiFi, Elastic, or equivalent). Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala. Solid background in data modeling, schema design, and database management. Experience with data warehousing solutions. Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment. Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph required. HS diploma or GED with 6+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in data engineering. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) information systems. Familiarity with knowledge management tools (Atlassian suite). Experience with version control systems such as Git. Understanding of Agile or SAFe development methodologies. Previous experience designing and maintaining Data Lakes/Lakehouses. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Master's degree in a related field. Work Environment This role is onsite in Annapolis Junction, MD.
