Position Description: The Laser Process Engineer will be responsible for laser processing equipment used to micromachine and process glass wafers for use in the electronics packaging industry for various vertical market applications. This will include but not limited to new process development, sustaining processes, and working with cross functional teams to solve complex problems and implement corrective actions. This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with a high level engineering team, equipment vendors, and customers. Essential Functions / Responsibilities: Set-up and maintenance of laser systems for material processing.
Monitor and improve throughput, quality, yield, and uptime of laser tools.
Continuous improvement of existing laser processes using structured DOEs and process window experiments.
Development of new laser processes involving chemical etches after laser irradiation.
Updating and maintaining documentation of laser processes.
Collaborate with tool vendors on material processing / tool parameters / tool health via logfile monitoring
Work with a team on improving metrics for TGV diameter, circularity, pattern offset
Design DOEs on critical parameters such as laser power, focal offset and work collaboratively with metrology team
Team oriented, self-starter who is collects and presents quantitative results

Experience in semiconductor or a glass processing industry.
In-depth understanding of laser - material interactions ablation, HAZ, effect of spot size, pulse duration on material processing, etc.)
Extensive hands on experience of aligning of open beam paths.
Excellent hands-on diagnostic, troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze statistical data; familiarity with software such as JMP is preferred.
Ability to shift focus among multiple priorities quickly.
Be detail-oriented and able to work with minimal supervision.
Be a highly-motivated, team-player with a positive attitude who is also excited about learning new skills and assisting with various projects and assignments as necessary.
Ability to apply fundamental theories in real engineering problem solving.
Industry or R&D manufacturing experience with laser processing.
Experience in laser processing, welding, laser metal deposition, and materials science preferred.
Experience with chemical etching processes a plus.
CNC or robotic programming and vision systems skills considered a plus.
Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Degree in Physics, Optics, Lasers, or Materials Science, or related discipline is preferred.
