NDI is looking for an entry mechanical engineer to join our team in Lakehurst. This individual would be responsible for the design, analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of mechanical systems critical to Navy operations, including power generation, HVAC, fluid systems, and structural components. We are seeking highly motivated and resilient Mechanical Engineers to join our team, focusing on the design, analysis, maintenance, and improvement of critical mechanical systems vital to Navy operations.

Role & Responsibilities:
 
  • Willingness to travel to challenging environments, and perform duties in physically demanding and uncomfortable conditions aboard naval vessels (surface), military installations, or remote field sites.
  • Readiness for travel, up to 5-10% or more, both domestically and internationally. This includes the ability to deploy aboard naval vessels (surface) or to remote forward operating bases in different environments.
  • Must be comfortable and capable of working in challenging and often uncomfortable conditions, such as noisy machinery, confined spaces, elevated heights, extreme temperatures (hot/cold), wet or humid environments, and areas with fumes, dust, or vibrations.
  • Physical readiness is a prerequisite, necessitating the ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects up to 50 lbs., and to stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills are required for operating tools and equipment.
  • The ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to navigate rapidly changing priorities and environments, along with the capacity for problem solving under pressure, making sound engineering decisions in stress or resource-constrained situations.
  • High resilience and stress tolerance are essential for performing effectively in physically uncomfortable, isolated, noisy, or hazardous environments for extended periods.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, and possess strong communication skills for effective interaction with diverse teams.
  • A collaborative team player with an unwavering commitment to safety, meticulous attention to detail, and a high degree of integrity and professionalism consistent with military values is required.


Qualifications: 
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Junior Level: 0-3 years of relevant experience, including internships, co-op programs, or academic projects with a strong emphasis on hands-on application, design, or testing, is required.
  • Mid-level roles demand 3-7 years of progressive professional experience, preferably within defense or maritime sectors, or alternatively, a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate a robust understanding of core mechanical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, materials science, machine design, and system dynamics.
  • Proven abilities in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex mechanical issues in real-world operational environments
  • Strong design and analysis skills, including proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CREO), basic understanding of FEA, and the ability to interpret and create technical drawings and schematics.
