*The Role *
The Innovation Engineer role focuses on developing and implementing novel solutions, involving emerging technologies, to address specific challenges and opportunities for aspectLED. This position bridges the gap between research and development, and product development, by identifying, validating, and transitioning innovative concepts into viable products and processes.
We’re looking for someone with a passion for figuring out the best ways to apply lighting technology in the real world. In this role, you’ll help people get the most out of aspectLED’s products. You’re someone who’s not just looking for the “right answer,” but who’s always asking: _“Is there a better way?”_
* *Full Time; Exempt * * *Pay:* $70,000 - $90,000 per year * *Location:* In Office – 4900 Constellation Drive, St. Paul, MN 55127 with the opportunity to work from home 1 day per week
*Key Responsibilities *
* Research, innovate, and develop turnkey solutions for our diverse customer base. * Serve as the go-to technical resource between customers, sales, and product teams – translating challenges into practical, well-engineered solutions. * Identify and troubleshoot technical issues – whether in pre-installation planning or active field scenarios – providing clear, actionable support. * Continuously refine and create technical documentation including wiring diagrams, installation guides, spec sheets, and FAQs. * Become an LED Expert * Champion continuous learning and improvement across teams, always looking to elevate how we apply and support our technology. * Opportunity to appear on our YouTube channel or social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) representing technical expertise for our products.
*Qualifications*
* Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Lighting Certified, Journeyman Electrician, or equivalent technical field experience * Minimum 2 years of experience working with LED lighting, low-voltage systems, or control technologies. * Experience in creating technical training materials, documentation, or how-to guides * Solid grasp of lighting fundamentals: CCT, CRI, lumens, beam angle, power requirements, etc. * Working knowledge of dimming protocols and control systems (0-10V, DMX, DALI, Casambi, Crestron, Control 4, Homeworks Etc). * Strong communicator with a natural inclination for teaching, learning, and solving real-world problems. * Comfort operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment with a solution-first mindset. * Ability to travel up to 5% of time for customer visits, trade shows, field service, etc.
*Preferred Experience*
* Customer-facing or field-based engineering experience. * Proficiency in lighting design software (e.g., Dialux, AGi32). * Familiarity with NEC, UL, and other relevant compliance standards.
