Job Description: Hotel Engineer & Maintenance
Position Title: Hotel & Resort Maintenance
Reports to: Chief Engineer
Department: Engineering
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
Wages: Hourly $20.00-24.00 depending on experience (See Company Benefits)
Summary:
The Engineering and Maintenance department serves as the backbone of hotel and resort operations. Their expertise not only safeguards the physical assets of the property but also significantly enhances the guest experience, leading to increased satisfaction and loyalty. By focusing on proactive maintenance, safety compliance, and sustainable practices, the engineering team supports the overarching goals of excellence in hospitality and responsible stewardship of resources.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Facilities Maintenance- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance of all hotel facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, and recreational spaces.
  • Identify and resolve maintenance issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to guest experiences.
  • Safety and Compliance- Ensure all engineering systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits, maintain accurate records, and manage safety inspections to mitigate risks.
  • Technical Expertise- Diagnose, repair, and replace malfunctioning equipment and systems
  • Collaborate with external vendors for specialized repairs and maintenance services, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Energy Management- Implement energy-efficient practices and technologies to reduce operating costs and promote sustainability.
  • Monitor energy consumption and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance environmental stewardship.
  • Staff Training and Development- Train and mentor junior maintenance staff in technical skills, safety protocols, and customer service practices.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the maintenance team.
  • Impact on Guest Experience-Engineering and maintenance workers play a critical role in shaping guests' overall experience, ensuring all facilities are in optimal working condition, contributing to comfort and satisfaction.
  • Minimizing downtime on essential services (e.g., heating, cooling, and water supply) to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Enhance the aesthetic appeal of the property through timely repairs and upkeep.
  • Assist with maintaining hotel facilities, including minor and routine painting, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Replace air conditioner filters and maintain HVAC systems.
  • Perform maintenance on kitchen equipment, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality guest service.
  • Respond promptly to guest requests, complaints, or questions in a courteous manner.

Education and Experience:
Minimum education required High School Diploma or General Education Certificate.
Minimum five years of hotel experience preferred.
Ability to perform essential job functions continuously for the duration of the shift.
Experience in maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
Ability to work in various environmental conditions (hot, cold, wet).
Physical capability to lift and move objects up to 100 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and climbing.
Must have own basic hand tools, knowledge with HVAC, electrical, plumbing and light carpentry are required.
Must be available nights, weekends and holidays are required.
