The Broadcast Engineer builds and maintains cutting-edge platforms for one of the premier national broadcasters. This role is part of our Broadcast Engineering team to ensure our content is readily available to viewers at any time via broadcast channel playout, Video OnDemand (VOD) and other media services. A snapshot of your responsibilities includes:
Providing engineering support for all on-air broadcast systems
Following standard operating procedures and documentation to support the operations team in a 24/7 environment
Building and maintaining FOX's broadcast infrastructure
Conducting lab, performance, and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolve FOX's architecture and infrastructure
Supporting evaluation of solutions portfolio against third party offerings
Maintaining a communication link between Broadcast Engineering and other departments by partnering to resolve issues and communicating feedback to Broadcast Engineering management to improve processes/services/solutions
Collaboration & partnerships include:
Supporting Media Operations in day-to-day operations and assist users with technical issues or concerns
Partnering with the Engineering and Standards & Advanced Technology teams to develop groundbreaking technology solutions for challenging business issues
Collaborating with engineering teams, operations teams, and third-party vendors to develop long-term strategy, product development, and implementation road maps
Performance improvement includes:

What you will need includes:
6+ years hands-on experience working in a broadcast or television facility
Strong working understanding of the SMPTE 2110 suite of standards as well as specifications such as NMOS developed by AMWA
Knowledge of various technologies and tools, including AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM), as well as on-prem virtual machines, containerization, and orchestration tools
General understanding of popular compression techniques such as MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, and JPEG XS
Knowledge of intercom systems, preferably including Riedel solutions
Strong analytical, reasoning, and technical troubleshooting skills are essential
Knowledge of major broadcast systems and the vendors that supply them in areas such as routing, storage, graphics, transcoding, playout, master control, etc.
Strong knowledge of asset management systems, file-based workflows, media acquisition, trans-coding/encoding, and NAS/SAN technologies
Familiarity with on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms
In-depth understanding of IP, including IPv4 addressing, subnetting, routing, and network design principles. Familiar with IP protocols such as TCP, UDP, RTP, DNS, and NAT. Knowledge of Arista networking tools (EOS, CloudVisio, etc.) is highly desirable
Ability to work effectively across different projects and teams
Ability to work various shifts as part of a 24/7 coverage team
Ability to translate business and operation requirements into technical requirements
Nice to have, but not a dealbreaker includes:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or related tech field
Knowledge and experience with emerging technologies such as 4K High Dynamic Range, and HDR10+ is a plus
Knowledge of industry standards such as, Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)
Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $143,000.00-147,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
