Job Description

The Firmware Engineer position plays a key R & D role for the company in the development of new products and the maintenance and improvement of existing company products. Responsibilities include modelling and designing FPGA-based image processing components, developing firmware and software for embedded systems, and analyzing, characterizing, and improving image processing systems. Software systems that the FPGA Firmware Engineer may be required to use include Git, Quartus, and common office software. Position may be remote.

Responsibilities * Design, document, and verify FPGA-based image processing and analysis blocks using HDL * Integrate 3rd party and internal IP blocks. Design, test, and verify internally developed IP blocks * Write software drivers for FPGA components and low-level devices * Analyze, characterize, and improve image processing pipeline components * Develop testing methodologies for complex, distributed embedded systems * Other responsibilities and projects as defined by the Engineering Manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications * Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field of study * > 3 years of work experience (6+ years preferred) * Proven FPGA programming skills * VHDL or Verilog experience preferred * Experience with FPGA design principles, including timing analysis, hierarchical design, simulation and modelling, and design verification * Understanding of electronics and hardware simulation and design principles * Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak English

Preferred Qualifications and Skills: * Experience with common Video transmission protocols, such as DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI, and SDI * Experience with Intel/Altera FPGAs, Quartus, and ModelSim * Knowledge of image processing techniques such as white balance, demosaic algorithms, shutter control, image enhancement, gamma correction, interpolation, image scaling, and video and image compression. * Experience with constraining high-speed serial links, high-speed memory busses, serial busses, and source synchronous interfaces * Hardware and PCB[JC1] design skills a plus * Medical device experience a plus * Familiarity with optics and photonics a plus

Physical Abilities * Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds. * Ability to sit and stand for a long duration of time. * Ability to stand, stoop and bend periodically. * Ability to perform routine, repetitive-motioned activities.

Salary Range: 80K – 140K

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialization, skills, abilities, and training. The above salary represents the Company’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
