Job Description:
An established fire detection and life safety systems contractor is seeking a Fire Alarm Engineer to join their Chicago-based team. This role is responsible for the design, layout, and coordination of fire alarm systems for commercial and industrial projects in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities:
Design and draft fire alarm systems using AutoCAD
Read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings
Prepare submittal and permit packages for review and approval
Ensure designs comply with NFPA codes, City of Chicago electrical and building codes, and other relevant regulations
Collaborate with project managers, field technicians, and other engineering staff
Coordinate with city officials and attend site visits as needed
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines
Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases
Qualifications:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
Experience designing low voltage electrical systems, specifically fire alarm systems
Strong understanding of NFPA, International, and Chicago-specific building and electrical codes
Ability to read and understand architectural and construction documents
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
Engineering degree preferred (Electrical, Fire Protection, or related field)
NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems is a plus but not required
