Senior Field Service Engineer

Job Description
The Senior Field Service Engineer provides hands-on engineering support to clients, focusing on process optimization, continuous improvement, and technical services related to mechanical systems and automated control equipment. This role is responsible for leading the implementation of new systems and upgrades, ensuring optimal performance, safety, efficiency, and product quality, while meeting client expectations and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of five years of experience in manufacturing, industrial environments, or field service roles

  • At least five years working with industrial automation systems, including PLC-controlled equipment

  • Minimum two years of direct field service experience in a similar technical capacity

  • Ability to travel extensively (50% or more)

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must be physically capable of working in high-temperature environments and lifting up to 50 lbs

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support ongoing product and process improvements

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical systems and automation

  • Oversee the full project lifecycle including design, budgeting, planning, procurement, installation, and commissioning

  • Develop and implement process enhancements that improve safety, reduce cost, and optimize performance

  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to define project requirements and ensure project outcomes align with those expectations

  • Provide onsite and remote troubleshooting and technical support

  • Evaluate vendors and contractors for the delivery of equipment and services

  • Commission systems to meet performance and compliance specifications

  • Deliver technical training to clients and staff on safe and effective use of equipment

  • Create, update, and distribute technical documentation and operations manuals

  • Interpret and produce mechanical and electrical schematics

  • Independently conduct mechanical commissioning and service visits for kiln or similar industrial equipment

  • Document service activities with detailed technical reports

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of automated machinery and control systems

  • Strong electrical, mechanical, and technical troubleshooting skills

  • Proficiency in PLCs, motor controls, and electrical control devices

  • Advanced computer literacy

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Creative thinker with the initiative to drive improvements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools such as VOMs, meggers, and ammeters

  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and client-facing abilities
