This position is responsible for professional-level engineering design, project management, and technical support to ensure safety, functionality, compliance, and efficiency within Columbia’s infrastructure systems. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review engineering plans, construction designs, estimates, and technical reports. Manage capital improvement projects from initial planning to completion. Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal standards. Analyze and validate data related to engineering initiatives. Conduct technical reviews of proposals, calculations, and construction documentation. Prepare cost estimates and specifications for city projects. Participate in public meetings and communicate effectively with stakeholders and residents. Maintain accurate records, data, and project documentation. Collaborate across departments and provide guidance to team members as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field. Three to five years of engineering or construction experience required. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required. Candidates without a P.E. may be considered for an Engineering Specialist role at $30.72–$37.79/hour. Valid driver’s license required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of civil engineering principles including hydraulics, geotechnical, transportation, and utilities. Familiarity with planning and zoning, land surveying, maps, deeds, plats, and construction materials. Proficiency with engineering design software and AutoCAD. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to analyze complex data and solve problems. Experience with strategic planning and project management.
