None/Not Required Collins Aerospace in Cheshire, CT designs and manufactures a large portfolio of high precision inertial measurement sensors and systems. Our products are critical to many commercial and military applications. We have an opportunity in our Materials and Process Lab for an Engineering Chemist at our Cheshire, CT facility. Materials and Processes is a service group and a Center of Excellence for Collins Aerospace, Mission Systems and as such requires interaction with the various internal customers, other Collins facilities (for whom we regularly perform failure analyses), customers and suppliers. Summary reports, test results and conclusions for root cause corrective actions are commonly written and presented following failure analysis, material or process changes, and material substitutions.
What You Will Do
Perform analytical testing including wet chemistry, GC/MS, FTIR, DSC, DMA, micro-sectioning, microstructural identification, SEM/EDS, XRF, XRay, tensile and compression testing, digital imaging microscopy, and micro-hardness testing to support failure analyses and root cause investigations
Support qualification/validation efforts for material and/or supplier obsolescence.
Support product design and performance involving daily production of numerous product lines
Work with Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering to solve manufacturing issues from suppliers through customers
Apply product/process design knowledge to troubleshooting and RCCA endeavors.
Provide support in new product introductions, transitions and conversions
Produce the required reports, procedures and supporting documentation to capture solutions and provide engineering guidance
Develop and support tooling, equipment and materials selections for existing and new products

Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
Qualifications We Prefer
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
Experience with polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry, and any of the aforementioned analytical techniques
Experience in failure analysis and root cause / corrective action

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
