Embedded Systems Hardware Engineer

Symmetrio is recruiting an Embedded Systems Hardware Engineer for our customer, a global conglomerate in the medical device space. This role centers on the design and integration of microcontroller-based systems, high-speed digital interfaces, and low-power embedded hardware. You will collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical, and systems engineers to deliver reliable, compliant designs for complex electromechanical systems.
This is an on site role in melbourne, FL. The salary for this role ranges from $125,000 to $150,000.
Responsibilities
Architect and design embedded systems centered on ARM Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M7 microcontrollers
Develop and optimize embedded firmware in C for real-time applications
Implement high-speed interfaces including USB , Gigabit Ethernet, SDRAM, and LVDS
Integrate peripheral communications using SPI, I²C, and USB Type-C Power Delivery ( spec)
Design and validate DC/DC power supplies ( Ensure proper power sequencing, noise control, and thermal management for sensitive electronics
Collaborate with firmware engineers to integrate and test embedded systems
Perform signal integrity analysis and support PCB layout for controlled impedance and high-speed routing
Develop and execute hardware verification plans, including test fixture design and automated test scripts
Ensure hardware designs meet applicable safety, EMC, and regulatory standards for medical devices
Participate in design reviews, FMEAs, and documentation for design history files
Use lab instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers) to debug and validate designs
Apply EMI/EMC best practices in board-level designs
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
7+ years of experience in embedded digital hardware design from concept to production
Proficiency with ARM Cortex-M4/M7 microcontroller architecture and development tools
Strong background in embedded firmware development in C
Expertise in high-speed digital design (USB , GigE, SDRAM, LVDS)
Experience with low-power DC/DC converter design and integration
Familiarity with USB Type-C Power Delivery protocols
Hands-on experience with lab instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers)
Strong understanding of signal integrity, EMI/EMC design practices, and PCB layout best practices
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in medical device or other regulated product development (IEC 60601, ISO 13485)
Knowledge of mixed-signal design integrating analog and digital circuitry
Experience with Ethernet PHYs, high-speed SERDES, and LVDS camera/data links
Familiarity with FPGA soft processors or embedded IP cores
