Electrical Power Distribution Engineer - JLL
What this job involves
The Electrical Power Distribution Support Specialist oversees critical maintenance planning and execution for electrical infrastructure. This role manages the scheduling process, coordinates preventative maintenance and repairs, and serves as a technical expert for substation operations. You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate equipment data, developing temporary power plans, and ensuring all maintenance work meets quality standards. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and attention to detail to maintain reliable power distribution systems.
What your day-to-day will look like
Developing and managing work schedules for maintenance activities
Coordinating labor resources and materials for preventative maintenance and corrective repairs
Researching equipment specifications and industry standards to inform maintenance projects
Managing and updating the substation master data sheet, tracking equipment age and rebuild cycles
Providing Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS) support, including equipment installation and task plan development
Organizing work to support capital projects and attending project meetings
Managing 8-10 substation shutdowns annually, which includes: Determining what equipment will be de-energized
Developing temporary power plans
Coordinating vendor support
Overseeing all shutdown work
Ensuring maintenance work orders have appropriate detail with proper documentation
Following up on issues that couldn't be immediately addressed
Completing tasks on the MV Engineering Task List (job aids, manhole assessments)
Writing switching procedures for power operations
Participating in root cause analysis and corrective action activities
Attending and facilitating conference calls via WebEx, Teams, etc.
Required Qualifications
Strong organizational and project management skills
Exemplary communication abilities with conflict resolution experience
High proficiency in English grammar with ability to write logical arguments and proposals
Advanced critical-thinking skills
Strong emotional intelligence and self-awareness
Ability to stoop and bend for long periods of time
Capability to work in awkward positions for extended periods
Physical ability to walk between buildings while carrying tools and equipment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Willingness to work in extreme temperatures when necessary
Comfort with working at heights (ladders, staging, lifts, elevated platforms)
Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited institution
5-10 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in an industrial setting
Military experience or job-related experience may substitute for formal credentials
Experience with substation maintenance and operations
Knowledge of relay installation, meter installation, and breaker rebuild procedures
Familiarity with enterprise asset management systems
Experience developing and managing temporary power solutions
