Job Description
Design, develop and create detailed working diagrams, drawings, and models of electrical and mechanical devices, parts, and assemblies, including dimensions, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and other engineering information. All design/detailing work is for mechanical and electrical systems for mission critical applications; specifically, the build of data centers.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Strong knowledge of engineering theory, principles, practices and their application.
- Ability to efficiently use design engineering software applications (Autodesk Inventor 3D and/or AutoCAD 2D required, Revit and/or Navisworks preferred).
- Operation and maintenance in Autodesk Vault (or similar) PDM environment.
- Analyzing and interpreting complex electrical applications.
- Working knowledge of mechanical codes and regulations (AWS, ASME, UL, NEMA, etc.).
- Extensive knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, etc.).
- General knowledge of international regulations (preferred).
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Windows environment and MS Office Suite tools.
- Drawings/models include various views, sectional profiles, irregular or reverse curves, hidden lines, and small or intricate details. Work requires use of most of the conventional drafting and Computer Aided Design (CAD) techniques and a working knowledge of the terms and procedures of the occupation.
- The ability to perform arithmetic computations using formulas.
- Prepares complete sets of complex drawings or computer models that include multiple views, detail drawings, fabrication ready drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Drawings or models include complex design features that require considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray.
- Assignments regularly require the use of mathematical formulas to draw contours or to compute weights, center of gravity, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material, fan and pump selections, etc.
- Determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.
- Selects required information from computer programs, and internet sites, precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides.
- Independently resolves most of the problems encountered.
- Promotes a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Professional Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required.
- Daily electrical engineering work - 5 years required; 7 years preferred.
- Controls/PLC programming – 3 years required; 5 years preferred.
- Design software expertise in AutoCAD 2D - 5 years required; 7 years preferred, can be trained.
- Software expertise in Autodesk Vault (or similar) PDM - 1 year required; 3 years preferred.
- Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams - 5 years required; 7 years preferred.
- HVAC detail / design experience is a plus.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor 3D is a plus.
- Work and experience in a production environment is a plus.
- Ability to interpret customer’s notes & sketches, vendor/supplier drawings and cut sheets, as well as verbal directions for development into complex design documents is necessary.
- Ability to manage time and efforts toward completing designs on time and within budget is required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
