: Work with internal and external customers to identify component and system behavior requirements for hybrid and electrified propulsion system components. Based on these requirements, develop specifications, statements of work, and action plans to design, develop, and source these components. Develop and oversee the execution of verification plans for components and systems in laboratory, test cell, and vehicle environments. Play a lead role in investigation and resolution of field issues as opportunities with fielded products arise.
More specific responsibilities include: specify, develop, and validate Electric Vehicle (EV) controls systems components and related high voltage electrical interface components; conduct system integration with electrical, mechanical, and control systems engineering teams; investigate reliability and durability performance and initiate corrective actions as required; perform root cause failure analysis on mechanical and electrical systems; prepare and release engineering technical documents; provide product technical support to suppliers, customers and other Allison departments; identify and develop opportunities for product improvements and cost reduction; and prepare and present technical status reports, schedules, and budgets for a variety of audiences.
Job Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Master’s degree in any relevant STEM discipline, such as ME, EE, CSEE, or Robotics.
3. Other education, experience, and skills must include:
CAN communication protocol creating DBC files, debugging error frames, troubleshooting physical layer issues, trace collection, and analysis;
CAD modeling, GD&T, and technical print generation;
DAQ software, such as NI LabView for data collection and analysis;
SOLIDWORKS (or other CAD software), ANSYS, MATLAB, Visual Studio, and GitHub;
Coding and Scripting languages including Python, C/C++/C#, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and BASH scripting;
Developing mobile systems with position sensors and actuators including LIDAR, encoders and DC motors;
Implementing concepts from PID Control, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Self Driving Cars, and Big Data Analysis;
Simulating kinematics of dynamic bodies and actuating them with virtual PID controllers;
Understanding of mechanical failure modalities, material properties, manufacturing processes, basic circuit elements, and electrical fundamentals;
Hands-on experience with CNC, lathes, or mills in compliance with safety standards.
