Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-driven Security Design Engineer with 35 years of experience in designing low voltage systems for commercial environments. This remote role will support a wide range of fire alarm and security integration projects, including access control and video surveillance systems. Candidates should be experienced in AutoCAD with a strong preference for Revit expertise, as the team is looking to scale up Revit usage in future projects. Ideal applicants will be comfortable working on 68 active projects simultaneously and collaborating remotely with project managers, estimators, and field teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Create complete design documentation for fire alarm, access control, and CCTV systems including riser diagrams, device layouts, wiring schematics, and as-built drawings
Use AutoCAD to generate technical drawings and construction documents (Revit experience is a major plus)
Support the transition to a more Revit-heavy design environment over time
Interpret project specifications, scopes of work, and customer requirements for code-compliant designs
Develop bill of materials (BOMs), submittal packages, and technical documentation for stakeholder review
Collaborate with internal stakeholders including project managers, engineers, and field staff to ensure designs are feasible and align with project goals
Handle 68 active projects simultaneously, ranging in size from under $10K to $1M
Provide remote design support during installation and commissioning phases
Required Experience & Skills:
35 years of experience designing low voltage systems, especially in fire alarm and security integration
Proficiency with AutoCAD; Revit experience is highly preferred
Strong understanding of Lenel (access control) and Hanwha (video surveillance) systems
Prior experience designing within commercial environments such as schools, healthcare, and corporate offices
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, ADA, etc.)
Ability to manage multiple design projects with shifting priorities and deadlines
Excellent remote communication and documentation skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Must be comfortable working independently and collaborating virtually across time zones
Preference for candidates located in or able to work during Central or Eastern Time hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Drafting, Electronics, or a related technical field
Manufacturer training or certifications in Lenel, Hanwha, or other major platforms
Experience with Revit Families, sheet setup, and 3D modeling is a major asset
Familiarity with estimating or quoting software is a plus
