Summary/Objective
The Data Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of a modern business intelligence framework using Microsoft Azure technologies. This role is responsible for building scalable ETL pipelines, integrating data from multiple sources, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure Synapse Analytics and/or Microsoft Fabric and will play a key role in shaping the company's BI strategy. This position requires strong technical, analytical, and communication skills, and reports to the Software Development Manager.
Key Performance Indicators
• BI Adoption Rate: Track user engagement and utilization of BI tools across departments.
• Project Efficiency and Timeliness: Measure the ability to lead, plan, develop, implement, and administer BI software within the set timelines and budget.
• Solution Usability and Performance: Evaluate the usability, performance, and scalability of the implemented BI solutions.
• Compliance and Standards: Maintain adherence to development, data governance and audit standards.
• Collaboration and Communication: Assess the effectiveness of collaboration with business managers, other analysts, support areas, and vendors.
Essential Functions
• Architect and build a comprehensive BI strategy aligned with business goals.
• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, or Microsoft Fabric Dataflows.
• Architect and implement data models, lake houses, and warehouses in Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or on-premises systems.
• Develop and maintain Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards, ensuring performance and usability.
• Lead the implementation of data governance, security, and compliance practices across BI systems.
• Drive the adoption of DevOps and CI/CD practices for data engineering workflows.
• Ensure data quality, lineage, and documentation across all data assets.
• Support data migration, transformation, and integration efforts across legacy and modern systems.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and insights and translate them into scalable BI solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members and cross-functional collaborators.
• Participate in strategic planning for BI initiatives and contribute to the overall data strategy.
• Provide off-hours support and assist with special projects as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Technical Expertise:
• Proficiency in Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with T-SQL, DAX, MDX, and Python.
• Familiarity with Delta Lake, Parquet, and data Lakehouse architecture.
• Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure SQL, and Dataverse is a plus.
• Experience integrating with JSON APIs and working with SSIS.
Strategic Thinking:
• Ability to design BI solutions aligned with business goals and long-term scalability.
• Experience defining and implementing BI governance frameworks.
Collaboration & Communication:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Operations, Engineering, Sales, and Accounting.
• Spanish proficiency preferred.
Problem-Solving & Initiative:
• Self-starter with the ability to troubleshoot, document, and resolve data issues independently.
• Passion for continuous learning and innovation in data technologies.
Project & Time Management:
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
• Experience leading or contributing to Agile/Scrum-based projects is a plus.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in business, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in architecting and developing data analytics solutions.
• Proven experience with advanced data modeling, ETL development and BI software (Power BI).
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, MDX, DAX, and JSON API integrations.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure tools (Synapse, Fabric, SSIS).
• Strong cross-functional communication skills (Operations, Engineering, Sales, Accounting).
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in IT systems engineering, with a focus on hybrid infrastructure and cloud technologies.
• Certifications: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Security+.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to typical office environment with some exposure to manufacturing site operations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
